We know that there was a minister here in the 12th century, a man named Odo of Cerintonia, who was also known as a writer of fables. The earliest part of the current church, however, dates to the 13th century. The dedication to St Cosmas and St Damian is rare in ; there are just five churches in the country bearing this dedication. Cosmas and Damian were Syrian brothers, and the patron saints of travellers and healing.

Sutton Veny’s Eco Church group has had several meetings to review and improve their answers to the Eco Church ques- tionnaire. The dashboard now indicates that we have achieved at least* Bronze level in all categories and so we have made our application for a Bronze Eco Church Award. (*In the Worship & Teach- ing and Lifestyle categories we are at GoId and Silver level respectively.) We have heard that our submission has been approved and the church will receive a Bronze Award plaque to display - made appropriately enough from recycled pews. The focus is now on moving towards the Silver Award, but we are mindful that as part of achieving our existing standard, we have made commitments that we must remember to keep. This includes conducting an annual carbon footprint audit, meeting the reduction target that we have set ourselves, and making an offset donation to Climate Stewards, who part- ner with the lead Eco Church charity, A Rocha, for those elements that cannot be reduced. Households as well as churches can conduct this audit. As a means of raising your awareness and engaging with this national initiative which is now growing throughout the Upper Wylye Valley Team, why not try measuring your own carbon footprint via the website www.climatestewards.org? Better still, talk about it. Compare your results with others and let's get this important conversation going!

The Prayer Group at Wylye Valley meets once a month. It is made up of children ranging in age from 8 - 11 years old. At the moment there are 12 children in the group and a waiting list. We meet during lunch times eating lunch as we gather our prayers together. I begin with lighting a candle and reminding the children with prayer that God is with us and listening to everything we say. We pray Teaspoon (tsp) Prayers. Firstly, we go around the table gathering thank you (t) prayers which can range from, “Thank you for finding my rabbit,” to “Thank you for all the kind people who care for refugees”. These are followed by a few moments of quiet time whilst the children reflect about things that they want to say sorry (s) for. These prayers aren’t spoken aloud. We then go around the table again gathering please (p) prayers. Again these can range from the personal, “Please can I have....” to the answer in November! very deep thinking “Please stop wars I asked the children what Prayer Group where children like us can get hurt”. We meant to them and this is the response: TEACUPLOVE end with The Grace and often a tricky “Prayer Group is where we are treated VINTAGE CHINA HIRE question or two. “So why does God let with respect, we listen to each other and For afternoon teas, lunches or dinners wars happen?” being the one I tried to we know that God listens to us.” Sue Bray Can cater up to 100.
