Home games in BOLD CAPS * American Mideast Conference Game # American Mideast Conference Tournament BOB RAGER, HEAD COACH 23nd season at Point Park, 23nd year overall, Career record: 310-301 Head coach Bob Rager is the all-time leader in career wins at Point Park with 310, and he is the longest tenured coach in program history. He be- came the all-time victories leader during the 2010-11 season when he passed his predecessor, Jerry Conboy, who won 305 games in 20 years from 1969-89. Rager ranks third all-time in career wins at four-year schools in the City of Pittsburgh. He trails Pitt’s Doc Carlson (367) and Duquesne’s Chick Davies (314) for that honor.

Rager, who was an NAIA All-American player at Point Park from 1970-74, was hired as Point Park’s fourth men’s basketball head coach prior to the 1989-90 season. Since then he has led Point Park to three appearances in the NAIA National Tournament, 16 conference playoff appearances and three conference titles. He has been named American Mideast Conference Coach of the Year on two occasions (2004-05, 2006-07), and he has had three 20-win seasons.

Rager’s first trip to the NAIA Tournament came in 1996-97, when he led the Pioneers to the NAIA Division I Final Four. That year, Point Park was 23-8, won the Keystone-Empire Collegiate Conference and advanced farther in the national tournament than any other Pioneers’ team. Rager’s second NAIA Tournament appearance came in 2000-01. The Pioneers reached the Sweet 16 and ended with a record of 21-12.

One of Rager’s best teams came in 2006-07 when the Pioneers were 29-2 and finished the season ranked No. 3 in the final NAIA Division II poll. The Pioneers won the AMC Championship Game over visiting Cedarville to take a 29-1 record and a No.3 overall seed into the national tourna- ment. But the Pioneers were upset in the first round by Spalding (Ky.).

Through the years, Rager’s teams have employed his fast-paced, up-tempo attack that have helped Point Park field one of the highest scoring pro- grams in the NAIA in recent years. In an impressive three-year stretch, the Pioneers led the NAIA Division II in scoring in 2005-06 and 2006-07 and they were third in the nation in the following year of 2007-08.

As a player, Rager ranks 14th in Point Park history with 1,071 career points. His 367 career assists rank seventh in Point Park annals.
