Saturday, February 6, 2016 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center 1301 Valley Rd., Reno, NV 89512 Host – Lynda Wiest / [email protected]

Basketball Skills – in all skills categories, men will compete with men and women will compete with women. Men will use regulation ; women will use 28.5” or women’s regulation basketballs. Competitors will also be broken into age groups. Age groups will be determined by number of competitors but the goal is to have 5 year increments, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, etc. All players are encouraged to compete in all skills categories but that is not a requirement. An overall winner (men & women) will be the competitor with the highest number of points.

Shooting Skills

Each player will be required to shoot from four positions:

Men’s Distances – men will shoot (3’), 10’, 15’ and behind the three point line. Men will shoot 2 , 2 – 10’ shots, 2 – 15’ shots and 1 three point shot. Men will then have 3 “open” shots that they can shoot from any distance they choose. Men will make a total of 10 shots.

Men’s Scoring – layup = 1 point, 10’ = 2 points, 15’ = 3 points, three point = 4 points. Players score is the total points for all shots.

Women’s distances – women will shoot layup (3’), 5’, 10’, 15’. Women will shoot 2 layups, 2 – 5’ shots, 2’ – 10’ shots and 1 – 15’ shot. Women will then have 3 “open” shots that they can shoot from any distance they choose. Women will make a total of 10 shots.

Women’s Scoring – layup = 1 point, 5’ = 2 points, 10’ = 3 points, 15’ = 4 points. Players score is the total points for all shots.

Ties (men & women) – in the event of a tie, players will alternate shooting starting at the layup and continuing until a player misses. If all four shots are made, shooting will start over at the layup position. Shooting will continue until a winner is determined.

Gold, Silver & Bronze Medals will be given in each age group.

Dribbling Skills

Each player will be required to dribble the ball from the baseline to the half court line and back to the baseline. From the baseline to half court, the player will need to weave through obstacles – all obstacles must be navigated for a time to count; from half court back to the baseline is a straight shot. Scoring will be based on time. Each player will be allowed two attempts and the best time of the two will be their score.

Ties will be broken by using the total of both attempts.

Gold, Silver & Bronze Medals will be given in each age group.

Passing Skills

Each player will be required to “pass” the ball to a person standing behind a 3’ wide opening. Players will be required to make 3 passes from three locations for a total of 9 passes. Distances will be 5’, 10’, 15’. Passes may be chest to chest or bounce passes. Two hands must be used to make each pass – no baseball throws. The pass may touch the markers but must pass must go completely through the opening.

Players will receive 1 point for each pass that goes through the 3’ opening (ball does not have to be caught by the person catching the pass).

Ties will be broken by comparing successful passes starting from 15’ and moving closer. If a tie still exists, players will alternate passing from 20’ until a winner is determined.

Gold, Silver & Bronze Medals will be given in each age group.

Overall Winner

Overall winners will be awarded for both men and women – age will not be a consideration. The overall winner will be the player with the highest total points when all the scores from the categories are added together. Points for will be awarded as follows: if there are 10 men in the dribbling skills category, the winner will receive 10 points, second place – 9 points, third place – 8 points, etc. The tenth player would receive 1 point. Only points earned in the basic part of the skills category will count. Points earned in tie breakers will not be considered. Gold, Silver and Bronze will be awarded to both men and women.

Ties will be broken as follows: player with the highest shooting skills points, then player with the highest dribbling skills points, then player with the highest passing skills points. If a tie still exists, players will shoot off until a winner is determined (men from the 15’ line – women from the 10’ center line).
