SPRING 2021 SHOOTOUT RULES (Updated 12/29/2020) Recent changes will appear in highlighted and italicized text

Rule 1: COVID-19 Considerations 1. Masks must be worn at all times as this is an indoor event. 2. Physical Distancing: a. All participants must maintain 6ft. physical distance at all times before, during, and after participation. b. Non-shooting participants maintain physical distancing while watching or waiting. 3. Equipment: a. All equipment provided by Sport Programs will be sanitized/disinfected prior to use. b. : i. Participants are encouraged to bring their own basketballs. ii. If a participant does not have a basketball, one will be provided by the Sport Programs staff. All provided basketballs will be sanitized between users.

Rule 2: Facility 1. This event will take place on Courts 1 and 2 of the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center, unless otherwise noted. Alcohol and tobacco are not permitted inside the facility or in the parking lot.

Rule 3: Player Eligibility 1. All Intramural Sports eligibility rules apply. Please check the Intramural Sports Rules and Regulations carefully. 2. All players must check-in with a government-issued photo ID, or University ID, prior to participation.

Rule 4: Equipment 1. Participants are encouraged to bring their own basketballs. If a participant does not have a basketball, one will be provided by the Sport Programs staff. 2. Men’s/Open participants will use 29.5” basketballs. Women’s participants will have their choice of using either 29.5” or 28.5” basketballs.

Rule 5: Event Format and Ground Rules 1. This event will combine five basketball shooting contests into one event to determine campus’ best all-around sharpshooter. The five contests are: a. Contest (Court 1, Half-Court A) b. 3-Point Shootout (Court 1, Half-Court B) c. Hot Shot (Court 2, Half-Court A) d. Around the World (Court 2, Half-Court B) e. Pop-A-Shot (Adjacent to bleachers off Court 1) 2. Participants will register for their start time on IMLeagues. Once checked-in, participants will consecutively go from one event to the next. a. The order of events will be as listed above with each participant having the same order; i.e., participants will start off with Free Throw Contest, then go to 3-Point Shootout, then Hot Shot, then Around the World, and finish with Pop-A-Shot.

3. Points will be given out for each individual contest and will be based on how the participant finishes with the rest of the field. See scoring breakdown in Rule 6 below. 4. For rules information for each of the five contests, see Rule 7-11 below. 5. Intramural Champion T-shirts will be given to the event’s overall winner for both Men’s/Open and Women’s Leagues. Individual contest winners shall not receive shirts.

Rule 6: Point Scoring 1. Points will be given for each of the five contests and will be distributed not from the participant’s score/result from that contest but will be based on how the participant finishes with the rest of the field. 2. The distribution will be as follows: a. 1st Place = 25 Points b. 2nd Place = 20 Points c. 3rd Place = 18 Points d. 4th Place = 16 Points e. 5th Place = 14 Points f. 6th Place = 12 Points g. 7th Place = 10 Points h. 8th Place = 8 Points i. 9th Place = 7 Points j. 10th Place = 6 Points k. Below 10th Place = 5 Points l. No Participation = 0 Points 3. In the event of a tie for any one of the five contests, the tying participants shall each receive the same number of points for the place for which they are tied. a. For example, if Participant A and Participant B both score 30 points for 3-Point Shootout and are tied for first place for that contest, both Participant A and Participant B shall receive 25 Points for 1st place in that contest. The next highest score shall then receive 18 points for 3rd Place. 4. After all participants have completed all five contests, points will be distributed for each contest and tallied. The participant with the highest cumulative point total shall be declared the event’s overall winner! 5. In the event of a tie for first place for the entire event, the tie breaker shall be broken by taking highest score from the last event, Pop-A-Shot. If a tie remains, the highest score from Around the World shall then be taken. If a tie still remains, the highest score from Hot Shot shall then be taken. If a tie still remains, the highest score from 3-Point Shootout shall then be taken. And finally, if somehow a tie still remains, the highest score from Free Throw Contest shall then be taken to break the tie.

Rule 7: Free Throw Contest 1. Each shooter shall have the option of taking no more than three warm-up free throws. The shooter must communicate this prior to the round by informing the rebounder/scorer. Regardless of if these warm-ups shots are made, they shall not count towards the shooter’s total score. 2. Each round will consist of 25 free throws. 3. There is no time limit. 4. One point shall be given out for each made free throw. Missed free throws shall count as zero points.

5. Each shooter will have one round for this contest.

Rule 8: 3-Point Shootout 1. Each shooter will have the option of taking up to one for warm-up shots prior to his/her round beginning. 2. Each shooter will have 60 seconds to shoot five balls from five racks positioned around the 3- point line. One rack will be stationed at the top of the , one will be on each wing, and one will be in each corner. Each shooter may begin at either corner of the court. 3. The clock will start on the shooter’s first release. 4. The first four balls on each rack are worth one point, and the fifth ball on each rack is worth two points. A shooter must have both feet behind the 3-point line when he/she releases the ball. 5. A shooter’s total score is determined by adding the total points he/she receives for all made baskets from behind the 3-point line. 6. Each participant will have one round for this contest.

Rule 9: Hot Shot Contest 1. Each shooter will have the option of taking up to one minute for warm-up shots prior to his/her round beginning. 2. Each shooter will have one minute to score as many points as possible. Points are scored by making shots from the designated positions on the court. 3. Timing will start when the shooter takes his/her first shot. After taking a shot, the shooter must get his/her own and run to another spot. 4. Shooters do not need to dribble between shots. 5. If a shooter makes a shot from each spot on the court, he/she will be given 25 points. This bonus is only available one time per round. 6. Shooters may only count two lay-ups towards their final scores. 7. Shooters may start at any of the designated positions on the court. 8. Each participant will have one round for this contest. 9. Below is a diagram of the court and the point values of each position.

Rule 10: Around the World Contest 1. Each shooter will have the option of taking up to one minute for warm-up shots prior to his/her round beginning. 2. As seen in the diagram below, 15 marked spots are set up where shooters shall attempt to shoot. Shooters shall start at “1” and work their way up and around attempting to reach “15.” Shooters shall move to each spot in the order of 1 to 15. 3. While going in order, each shooter shall get up to two shots at each designated spot. a. If the shooter makes it on the first try, he/she advances to the next spot. b. If the shooter misses it on the first try, he/she will have a second opportunity to make it. c. If the shooter makes it on the second try, he/she advances to the next spot without penalty. d. If the shooter misses it on the second try, he/she has failed and the round is over. 4. When a shooter misses for the second time at the same spot, he/she shall receive the point total from where he/she was eliminated. a. For example, if Participant A misses twice on “12”, his/her score will be recorded as 12. 5. If a contestant successfully makes his/her way through the 15th and final spot, he/she may continue until missing twice in a row by re-starting at “1”. The first spot becomes worth 16 points, the second spot becomes worth 17 points, and so on. The participant may continue until he/she misses twice in a row. 6. Each shooter shall have up to two rounds for this contest with the highest score being taken for placing purposes. 7. Below is a diagram of the court and the point values of each spot.

Rule 11: Pop-A-Shot Contest 1. Participants will go one-at-a-time and use only the left basket of the Pop-A-Shot machine. 2. The machine’s announcer will count down to start. 3. Each round is 30 seconds long. Shots that go through the basket before the start or after the buzzer will not count. 4. Baskets are worth two points until the final 10 seconds when they are worth three points. 5. If 30 points are reached, 15 bonus points will be given. 6. If 60 points are reached, another 10 bonus points will be given. 7. Each shooter shall have up to three rounds for this contest with the highest score being taken for placing purposes.
