Address______City______Zip______As we heard from the Gospel of St. Matthew on Ash Wednesday, the 3 traditional components of Lenten are 1) prayer, 2) , and 3) almsgiving. Last week we briefly dis- cussed the "prayer" portion, and this week it's "fasting". Next Saturday, Each morning when we eat breakfast we're breaking our fast. All night long we've eaten nothing and now we get to eat once more. Fasting is a personal decision, and we decide to fast for many dif- MARCH 6th ferent reasons. To consciously say 'no' to "JURASSIC PARK" Auction items are on ourselves allows us to more genuinely and more freely to say 'yes' display and bidding is open to Christ. As He knelt in the Garden of Gethsemani, He pleaded with His Father "Let this cup pass away from Me, but not My will but (from 5 - 7 pm) in the main hall. Thine be done." He gave up His will to the Father. So what do we give up? Of course we should give up things that are sinful and harmful. But giving up some of the everyday, ordinary stuff of everyday, ordinary life is also a way to open ourselves to the Lord and His will. Perhaps fasting can give us more time to help others or to pray; more money to help the poor; more self-control to give ourselves more completely to God. As you may have noticed, he's been on our prayer list for a while. This past Monday Msgr. Buchheit moved to Mother of Good Counsel Nursing Home and was put on hospice. On December 19th he celebrated his 95th Birthday, and this coming May 3rd he will celebrate the 70th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Holy Priesthood. If you would like to send him a card you can do so at the nursing home at 6825 Natural Bridge Rd, St. Louis, MO 63121.
