DECEMBER 27, 2020—HOLY FAMILY OF , MARY & JOSEPH

SAINT ROSE OF LIMA MISSION STATEMENT

Glorify God. Follow Jesus. Love one another. Invite everyone.

Excerpts from the lectionary for Mass (C)2001, 1998,1970 CCD. (C)LPi FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear friends, teachers in the faith. They learn this “trade”, passing it down from one person to another: This weekend we celebrate the Feast “When in time to come your son asks you... You of the Holy Family MJesus, Mary, and shall say to him...” (Ex 13:14). Thus succeeding Joseph M who lived in a communion of generations can raise their song to the Lord: love and fellowship. On this great “young men and maidens together, old and young I want to pass on to you a together!”(Ps 148:12). few words from Francis, who is a kind of “apostle of the family.” These lines are taken from his Over the last two years I have been blessed to meet so apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia or “The Joy of many families and become part of the parish family of Love”: faith at Saint Rose of Lima. May God bless your families abundantly and fill them with the light and We know that the New Testament speaks of grace of this Christmas season! “churches that meet in homes” (cf. 1 Cor 16:19; Rom 16:5; Col 4:15; Philem 2). A family’s living Jesus, Mary, and Joseph: pray for us! space could turn into a domestic church, a setting for the Eucharist, the presence of Christ seated at In the love of Christ, its table. We can never forget the image found in the Book of Revelation, where the Lord says: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in Pastor to him and eat with him, and he with me” (Rev [email protected] 3:20). Here we see a home filled with the presence of God, common prayer and every blessing. This is the meaning of the conclusion of Psalm 128, which we cited above: “Thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord. The Lord bless you from Zion!” (Ps 128:45). The Bible also presents the family as the place where children are brought up in the faith. This is evident from the description of the Passover celebration (cf. Ex 12:2627; Deut 6:2025) and it later appears explicitly in the Jewish haggadah, the dialogue accompanying the rite of the Passover meal. One of the Psalms celebrates the proclamation of faith within families: “All that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us, we will not hide from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders which he has wrought. He established a testimony in , and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children; that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children” (Ps 78:36). The family is thus the place where parents become their children’s first

2 WWW.SAINTROSEOFLIMA.NET SCHOOL NEWS Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School 2020-2021 Trimester 1 Honor Roll Source: canva.com Dear parishioners of Saint Rose, It’s been a challenging year for all of us. But hopefully as we look back over the year, each of us can find a few high- lights and positives. Our best highlights have come from you, our community. It has been heartwarming to feel a sense of connection even while we all remain socially distant from the joyful sound of children on the playground to the tenderness of Eucharistic Ministers supporting our homebound members, inperson when it’s safe and by phone call when that’s best; from the watchfulness of parents carefully following the health protocol so we may keep our school in session, to the patience of volunteers making appointments to visit the parish office; there’s the support you’ve provided the Giving Tree Advent project, and your kind generosity to the student council AdoptaFamily program. Our community has stepped up to offer assistance as challenges have mounted: donations of food and monetary support via Keystone Services, quiet comfort provided by members of the Prayer Line and those participating in the Covid Corps prayer group, direct support for hungry people via Loaves & Fishes and Meals on Wheels, donations from our local Knights of Columbus and parishioners to support people temporarily affected by challenging circumstances, prayer shawls from our knitters, masks from our quilters, and the ongoing support of this parish through weekly giving. Our Community has welcomed 16 babies and 2 adults in baptism; 8 children were confirmed and 15 children received First Holy Communion. Thirtythree new families joined our parish. We were able to start livestreaming Sunday Mass for all to watch, and some have even joined in from out of state! Parishioners have called and checked in on us, and staff has called and checked on them. Though there have been many adjustments for all, our parish is vibrant and continuing to grow because of you. As we prepare to say goodbye to 2020, we want to say THANK YOU! Thank you for being a part of our community, for taking an active role even if it was from home, by praying in and for this community. May God bless and keep you now and throughout the year ahead. Let your light shine before others, that they may see your With gratitude and appreciation, good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
