Dear People of St. Rose,

I am sitting down to write this on a very special day. On the Church’s calendar, today, June 30th, is the feast of the First Roman Martyrs. These brave people suffered terrible persecution for the Gospel while the gospels were still being written, in the year 67AD. With their blood these saints proved to the world that love is stronger than death.

Today is also special because it is the day in which new assignments in the Diocese of Brooklyn take effect. Two years ago, on this date, I began my work here as administrator, and then one year later, on August 23rd, as Pastor. It has been a beautiful experience, and I look forward to many more years of service to the people God has put in my care here at St. Rose.

I am writing this letter to tell you two things that I don’t say nearly enough: I love being a priest, and I love you. My vocation has challenged me in ways I could never have imagined, and through those challenges it has brought me closer to God than ever before. His mercy and love are more than concepts for me, as I have witnessed them up close, holding their incarnate form in my hands at every Mass I’ve been privileged to celebrate here. When I arrived, I was assisted in this by Fr. Sobiech, who helped many of our Polish parishioners to encounter Jesus at the table of the Eucharist and on the school tables during their huge dinner-dances, cooking and serving delicious kielbasa and other delicious dishes I can’t yet pronounce. Fr. Czok’s lighthearted presence and pastoral wisdom helped me, and his regular presence in the chapel inspired me. Even though I’ve been the only full-time priest here for nearly one year, I never feel alone; God’s presence and your support have carried me through unprecedented difficulties. I still have much to learn, but with Jesus on my right and the ocean on my left, I am confident and happy here.

Thank you to our English-speaking parishioners. Celebrating the Mass in the primary language of the nation we love is a daily gift for me. I am proud to be your pastor. Thank you to our Spanish- speaking parishioners. You remind me of my parents, who left everything they knew for the promise of prosperity by God’s providence. I am proud to be your pastor. Thank you to our Polish-speaking parishioners. Your devotion at Mass and your care for the parish property help to make our church beautiful inside and out, inspiring me and helping me more than you know. I am proud to be your pastor.

Thank you to our blessed mother Mary and our great and mighty Lord Jesus, for calling me to this holy life in this holy place. I am a weak instrument, but I am Yours, O Lord. Grant that I may love you always, then do with me as You will. Father Rodriguez

Escribo estas palabras sencillas en un día muy especial. El 30 de junio, la Iglesia recuerda los primeros mártires de Roma. Estos valientes sufrieron una persecución terrible por el Evangelio mientras los evangelios estaban siendo escritos, en el ano 67. Con su sangre, estos santos mostraron al mundo que el amor es más fuerte que la muerte. Esta fecha es especial en nuestra diócesis por otra razón. Mi vocación ha sido un desafío incomparable, y a la vez la avenida de mi amistad personal con Dios. Su misericordia y amor son para mi mas que simples conceptos. Tomo en mis manos este amor y misericordia cada día cuando celebro la santa misa. Cuando llegue, el padre Slawomir me ayudó con esto, e introdujo a muchos de nuestra comunidad polaca a Jesucristo. Él les dio de comer en la mesa de la Eucaristía, y en las mesas de las grandes fiestas que celebraban, con platos suculentos con nombres que todavía no puedo pronunciar. El padre Roberto me ayudó con su cariño y larga experiencia pastoral, y con su presencia constante en la capilla me inspiraba. Aunque he sido el único sacerdote asignado aquí tiempo completo, nunca me siento solo. La presencia de Dios y el apoyo de ustedes me han soportado en tiempos sumamente difíciles. Todavía tengo mucho de aprender, pero con Jesus a mi derecha y el mar a mi izquierda me siento feliz. Con esta carta quiero agradecer a los feligreses que hablan ingles. Es un placer celebrar la misa diaria en el idioma primario de esta tierra que tanto queremos, y es mi orgullo ser su párroco. A los hispanos que vienen buscando a Jesus, ustedes me hacen pensar en mis padres que hicieron lo mismo, dejando atrás todo lo conocido para la promesa y esperanza del inmigrante, guiados por Dios mismo. Drodzy Parafianie Kościoła Św. Róży, Siedzę w tym bardzo wyjątkowym dniu i pisze. W kalendarzu kościelnym dziś 30 czerwca przypada święto Pierwszych Męczenników Rzymskich. Ci odważni ludzie cierpieli straszliwe prześladowania z powodu Ewangelii, gdy jeszcze ewangelie były pisane, w roku 67 n.e. Swoją krwią święci ci udowodnili światu, że miłość jest silniejsza niż śmierć. Dzisiejszy dzień jest również wyjątkowy, ponieważ jest to dzień, w którym wchodzą w życie nowe zadania w diecezji Brooklyńskiej. Dwa lata temu, w tym dniu, rozpocząłem tutaj swoją pracę jako administrator, a rok później, 23 sierpnia, jako proboszcz. Obecność i duszpasterska mądrość księdza Czoka oraz jego codzienna obecność w kaplicy zainspirowały mnie. Chociaż jestem tu jedynym pełnoetatowym księdzem od prawie roku, nigdy nie czuję się samotny; Boża obecność i Wasze wsparcie pomogły mi przejść przez niespotykane dotąd trudności. Muszę się jeszcze wiele nauczyć, ale z Jezusem po mojej prawej i oceanem po mojej lewej stronie, jestem tutaj pewny siebie i szczęśliwy. Dziękuje naszym anglojęzycznym parafianom. Odprawianie Mszy Świętej w podstawowym języku naszego narodu jest dla mnie codziennym prezentem. Jestem dumny, że jestem waszym proboszczem. Dziękuje naszym hiszpańskojęzycznym parafianom. Przypominacie mi moich rodziców, którzy zostawili wszystko, co znali, dla obietnicy pomyślności przez Bożą opatrzność. Jestem dumny, że jestem Waszym proboszczem. Dziękuje naszym polskojęzycznym parafianom. Wasze oddanie podczas Mszy Świętej i troska o mienie parafii pomagają uczynić nasz kościół pięknym wewnątrz i na zewnątrz, inspirując mnie i pomagając mi bardziej niż myślicie. Jestem dumny, że jestem Waszym proboszczem. Dziękuję naszej błogosławionej Matce Maryi oraz naszemu wielkiemu i potężnemu Panu Jezusowi za powołanie mnie do tego świętego życia w tym świętym miejscu. Report cards were sent out to all grades EXCEPT 8th. Their report cards will be mailed when the Confirmation work is returned no later than July 31.
