St. Rose of Church 312 Ridgedale Avenue East Hanover, New Jersey 07936 www.saintroseoflimachurch.org

Fifth Sunday of Easter May 19, 2019

This past weekend was truly a time of intense joy and celebration. The ordinations at our cathedral were very moving. The eight newly ordained priests have been assigned their parishes and are excited to begin serving as priests in varied parishes within our diocese. Fr. Alex had given me the privilege of vesting him in his stole and chasuble. After the Ordination Mass I knelt to receive his blessing and kiss the hands of the newly ordained that the Bishop had just anointed. The hands of Fr. Alex, as with all priests, are holy and blessed, ready to celebrate the sacraments and to empower us to be the hands and heart of Christ, to those for whom God calls us to be a shepherd. Fr. Alex’s First Mass was joyful and very moving. He presided with dignity at the altar where he had served as an altar boy for so many years. Thanks to everyone in our parish who worked so hard to make this Mass so memorable. Diego, Jeanne Marie, and our music ministry excelled as did our Readers, our Extraordinary Ministers, our Altar Servers, our Ushers, our Sacristan, and all who helped in many varied ways. Thank you to my good friends, the Leonardis Family, who serve our bereaved with great love and dignity and are such special friends of mine. They donated all of Fr. Alex’s ordination prayer cards. We appreciate their love and support. The reception following the First Mass was well attended and the food was delicious. Thanks to Jeanne Taylor who organized and ran the event and to all who contributed in many and varied ways. I’m delighted to inform you that St. Rose is receiving a newly ordained priest. His name is Fr. Kerwin Gaza. He is from the and completed his studies at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Maryland. He’s a kind and charming young man and is very hard working. He spoke by phone with Fr. Matthew and is very excited to be the Parochial Vicar at St. Rose. His appointment will begin June 13th. Fr. Matthew is away for a few days and is very pleased that Fr. Kerwin will be his new Vicar. They look forward to meeting formally early next week. Fr. Alex returns to on May 20th to complete his exams. After completing his exams, he will join his parents and me in Roubaix, France, his mother’s hometown. On June 23rd, the Feast of Corpus Christi, he will celebrate his First French Mass at the beautiful church of Sacred Heart where he was baptized. I’m pleased to inform you that while Fr. Alex’s main assignment is to complete his licentiate at the Gregorian University in Rome in September, Bishop has assigned him in residence at St. Luke’s in Long Valley to assist me in priestly ministry. Fr. Alex returns to Rome early September. He will be a great support to me as I get settled into my new parish. I know he will enjoy ministering to the parishioners of St. Luke’s. As he and Fr. Matthew are such good friends, expect to see Fr. Alex celebrating Mass and visiting with you here at St. Rose.

Pre-k 3 has been super busy! We learned all about bugs and how they help our plants and gardens. Students learned how caterpillars turn into butterflies; our big vocabulary word for this unit was symmetry! We read "A Very Hungry Caterpillar" and watched a caterpillar eat its way to a butterfly. Everyone got to make beautiful caterpillars and butterflies! Each class received 6 caterpillars that we are going to watch transform into butterflies that we will release in our prayer garden. Then, the students even got to make pattern caterpillars. Also in our spring unit, students got to plant seeds in our school garden. We discussed what plants and flowers need to grow and how we can help with this process. We can't wait to watch them turn into beautiful flowers!!

SACRAMENTS Baptism We celebrate the sacrament of Baptism most Sundays. Parents are welcome to have the Baptism celebrated either at a week-end Mass or at the Liturgy of Baptism at 1:15. To make arrangements for Baptism please call Father Owen or Fr. Matthew. Godparents must be confirmed and be active members of the church and attend Mass regularly. Sacrament of Reconciliation Every Saturday at 8:15 – 8:50 and 4:45 – 5:15 (or by appointment with Fr. Owen or Fr. Matthew). Sacrament of Marriage Please contact Fr. Owen or Fr.
