Pentecost Sunday May 20, 2018

This weekend of Pentecost brings the Easter Season to a close. On this day we celebrate the Holy Spirit coming upon the Apostles and Disciples with courage and wisdom to teach and preach the Good News. As we celebrate this great weekend let us open our hearts to the prompting of the Holy Spirit that we too will be courageous enough to be the disciples who God calls us to be. As I celebrate Pentecost today, I appreciate that one of the privileges of being a pastor is to, with the permission of the bishop, celebrate Confirmation between Holy Saturday and Pentecost. I give thanks to the Lord for the fifteen individuals whom I have Confirmed this Easter season. Congratulations to Adelina Rose Carrascosa who received her First Holy Communion last Saturday, May 12th. Adelina, formally a student of the Academy, now attends St. Vincent the Martyr school in Madison. Adelina is blessed to be a part of a strong Catholic family. My best wishes to her parents Alison and Rolando who are strong Catholic role models for Adelina and her older siblings Annabella, Alexander, and Nicholas. Congratulations also to Vescera, our parishioner, who attends St. Patrick’s in Chatham and received his second Holy Communion in his home parish. Last fall a friend of mine and a member of the Order of Malta, Jim Hamerschlag, introduced me to Brian Pitts, a former Presbyterian who was interested in becoming Catholic. Brian then began a period of learning and last month Jim, who became his catechist and mentor, presented him to me for entry into the . This Saturday I am privileged to initiate him into our Catholic faith through his Profession of Faith and the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. Brian is a very spiritual young man and very open to the Holy Spirit. I know he is going to be a strong Catholic man and I’m very proud of him. This Sunday I Confirmed Salvatore Prioletti. I have known the Prioletti family for many years. Sal comes from a very loving family. I was very proud to see his brother Muzio take on the role of sponsor. Tony and Fran have created a loving Catholic family. Congratulations to Sal and the Prioletti family on this very special day. Several years ago the parishes of our diocese began a summer outreach to help replenish the food pantries in Paterson, Passaic and Dover. This has been very effective in helping to restock food pantries in areas where there is great poverty. St. Rose of Lima has been asked to provide any type of canned soup. We will place the parish truck in the parking lot for the Feast of Corpus Christi calling to mind that we, who are the Body of Christ, gives sustenance to our fellow brothers and sisters who are in need. For your convenience, the truck will be in front of the church from Friday morning June 1st until Monday afternoon, June 4th.
