Mi 5:1-4a; Ps 80:2-3, 15-16, 18-19; Heb 10:5-10; Lk 1:39-45 The “O Antiphons” of Advent For several years in Advent we have beautiful banners hanging from the ceiling of our church. They depict seven antiphons that the Roman Church has been singing since at least the eighth century. They are the antiphons that accompany the Magnificat canticle of Evening Prayer from December 17-23 and are also used as the verses on the same days during the Mass. Their magnificent theology uses ancient biblical imagery drawn from the messianic hopes of the Old Testament to proclaim the coming Christ as the fulfillment not only of Old Testament hopes, but present ones as well. Each antiphon is a name of Christ, one of his attributes mentioned in Scripture. Their repeated use of the imperative "Come!" embodies the longing of all for the Divine Messiah. May this longing be also our longing as we go deeper and deeper into Advent. December 18 “O Adonai” December 17 “O Sapientia” O Leader of the House of O Wisdom of our God Most Israel, giver of the Law to High, guiding creation with Moses on Sinai: come to power and love: come to rescue us with your mighty teach us the path of power! knowledge!

December 19 December 20 “O Radix Jesse” “O Clavis David” O Root of Jesse’s stem, O Key of David, sign of God’s love for all opening the gates of God’s his people: come to save eternal Kingdom: come and us without delay! free the prisoners of dark- ness!

December 22 “O Rex Gentium” December 21 O King of all nations and key- “O Oriens” stone of the Church: come and O Radiant Dawn, save man, whom you formed from splendor of eternal light, the dust! sun of justice: come and shine on those who dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death. December 23 “O Emmanuel” O Emmanuel, our King and Giver of Law: come to save us, Lord our God!

There is so much to do. One of the things we do is to remember family, friends and others by giving them a gift to show our love and appreciation for all that they do. We remember everyone from Grandma to the paper boy; Aunt Sally to the person who cuts our hair. Have we ever thought about a gift for our parish, our spiritual home? We receive so many blessings from our heavenly Father, the greatest of which is the gift of His Son, Jesus. A gift showing our gratitude for all the blessings of the past year seems very appro- priate. Here is an idea of a present you and your family could give to Corpus Christi: New Sofas for St. Ann’s Room Dear Corpus Christi, We needed to replace the sofas in the St. Ann’s room. The new sofas will last for years to come, as well as make meetings more cozy. The sofas are primarily used by our Youth Group (DTS – Dead Theologians Society) and also by Religious Education classes and others, such as adult prayer groups. While the furniture will provide a warm setting for children and teens, it will also make the space more inviting and professional for other groups. We are hoping to raise $721.51 for three large sofas and one love seat. We already have generous donations of $100 and $494.48 to go towards the $1315.99 total cost. Pictures of the sofas have been included below. Any and all donations are tax deductible and will be accepted with great gratitude. Once the room is set up we will let the parish know and would love for you to stop by and test them out! Thank for your continued support. God Bless, DTS and the Youth Ministry Team Please contact Michael Bone at 630-483-4226 or [email protected] with any questions!
