In addition, enrollment trend data are included by sector for fall 1975 to fall 1983. -Degree-credit enrollment data are provided for full- and part-time undergraduates, first-professional, graduate students, and for all students. This inforpation is presented for specific institutions and for the following institutional groupings: total state, total public, State University of New York, City .University of New York, independent, proprietary, two-year, four-year and higher, and graduate only.,Data are also provided for categories within the sectors (e.g., university zolleges, health sciences centers). The trend data cover the following institutional types: independent, proprietary, state university, city university, and total state. (SW)

DEGREE-CREDIT ENROLLMENT in a program or.takins courses which are creditable iploma, certificate,'aisociatei bachelor's, ma oral, or first- professional degree.- 4

UNDERGRADUATE: Students enrbP a four- or five-year bachelor's degree program, in an iate degree program, in a voo'ational or technical program ta s. normally terminal and results in formal recognition bel the baccalaureate, or students who are not candidates foil klegree or other formal award, although taking degree-credit ses designated by the institution as undergraduate level. #

FIRST - PROFESSIONAL: Students enrolled in a professional school or program. which required at least two academic years of college work for enrance and a total of'at least six years for a degree. This category only includes students taking courses in the; following first-professional degree programs: Dentistry (D.D.S., or D.M.D. degree), Medicine (M.D. degree), Optiketry (0.D: degree), Osteopathic Medicine (D.0:'degree), Pharmacy (D.Phar, degree), Podiatry (Pod.D., D.P.) or Podiatric. Medicine (D.P.M.) [includs Chiropody], Veterinary Mddicine (D:V.M. degree4, Chiropractic' (D.C. or D.C.M. degree), Law (LL.B. or.J.D. degree), and Theological Professions (B.D., M.Div.,.or other first-professional degree).

GRADUATE: Students who hold the bachelor's or first-professional degree or equivalent and are enrolled in graduate level curricula which lead to a certificate, master's ordoctoAl degree, or students who are not candidates for:a graduate degree or certificate but are taking degree-credit courses, designated by the institution as graduate level

FULL-TIME: Those students whose academic-load-course work or other . required activity is at least 75"percent of the normal full- time load. Undergraduate students must carry at least 12 credit hours to be considered full-time, while graduate students must carry at least 9 credit hours. Graduate students ,enrolled in the City University of New York must carry at least 12 credit hours to be considered full-time.

PART-TIME: Those students whose academic.. load- course work or 'other required activity is less than 75 percent of the normal full- time load.

FIRST-TIME STUDENTS: Undergraduate students who have not previously enrolled in any college. However, students who entered with

advanced standing (college credits earned before graduation , from high school) if they hadcnever previously enrolled in an institution of higher educatio n. and students attending college for the first time during the summersession are included.
