I have always championed rural communities in my work as a local councillor. Therefore, I am pleased to report that the proposal to introduce charges for the collection of brown bin waste was rejected by councillors. I was extremely concerned that this charge would have led to an increase in fly-tipping and complaints from residents about burning of garden waste in neighbouring properties. In addition, I have also successfully fought to retain community grants for another year. As I have seen for myself, these small amounts of money can be a lifeline to volun- teer groups in our villages. We are all looking forward to welcoming the Tour de to Folkton in May. It is a wonderful oppor- tunity to promote our beautiful landscape to a wider audi- ence. I am delighted that our area will be centre stage as tourism is not just for the seaside towns. So let's make this opportunity count for our communities and businesses.

Regards

Michelle

Many thanks to Hertford Vale School for these photographs of their school trip to the East Barnby Centre.

They have obviously had a good time and I am sure have learnt lots of new skills.

I am reminded of the times I took parties of school children on similar school trips. They are very happy and rewarding experiences. .

.

In1989 the School in Folkton and Flixton closed and the children transferred to other schools in the area. Whilst I was involved in the Digital History project I was given many photo‐ graphs of the school dating from as far back 1890. Over the next issues of the Parish News I will include some of the photographs. I will work backwards in time so that some of you may recall the people in the photographs. Many thanks to all who keep sending me names for the people in the photographs.

Many thanks to all who have contributed articles for this newsletter I couldn’t produce it without you. Deadline for next issue is OCTOBER 2015

Now that the weather is getting better we will be starting our work on the beds at the bottom of Fordon Road and out side the Johnsons. We will be taking out the bed on the Back Lane side as we have been lead to believe it is a hazard to traffic at that junction. The plants will be used to supplement the other beds and any left over will be planted down Crook Lane.

We have been successful in purchasing some new self watering tubs which will be planted up for the summer and will replace some of the older tubs.

We are going to organise a Quiz Night for later in the year and will put posters in the noticeboards when we have got all the information for it.
