PRAYER FOR THE YEAR OF ST.

Holy Joseph, guardian of , husband of the Blessed Mother and patron of the Catholic Church, we pray to you for guidance this “Year of ” proclaimed by Francis.

You have showed us by your loving ways, the value of work and the joys of fatherhood. By teaching God’s Son to do the will of His Father you have given us the path to do the same. By your example, you have encouraged us to accept others as they are, without exception.

To you, Saint Joseph, our heavenly Father entrusted his only Son, Jesus Christ, to your tender care and upbringing. In you, our Blessed Mother Mary placed her love and trust. Through your mentoring, Jesus Christ became man.

We praise you and ask of you to defend us and our loved ones from every evil and guide us with your grace and mercy.

--AMEN

Pray the Rosary in the Month of May

In this month of May, I would like to recall the importance and beauty of the prayer of the holy rosary. Reciting the Hail Mary, we are led to contemplate the mysteries of Jesus, that is, to reflect on the key moments of his life, so that, as with Mary and St. Joseph, he is the center of our thoughts, of our attention, and our actions. It would be nice if, especially in this month of May, we could pray the holy rosary together in the family, with friends, in the parish, or some prayer to Jesus and the Mary! -POPE FRANCIS FEAST OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA THURSDAY, MAY 16

By your gift to the Society of St. Vincent dePaul, you are fulfilling this commandment.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!

The origin of Mother’ Day as we know it took place in the early 1900s. A woman named Anna Jarvis started a campaign for an official holiday honoring mothers in 1905, the year her own mother died. The first larger-scale celebraon of the holiday was in 1908, when Jarvis held a public memorial for her mother in her hometown of Graon, West Virginia.

Over the next few years, Jarvis pushed to have the holiday officially recognized, and it was celebrated increasingly in more and more states around the U.S. Finally, in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamaon making Mother’s Day an official holiday, to take place the second Sunday in May.

Anna Jarvis put Mother’s Day on the calendar as a day dedicated to expressing love and gratude to mothers, acknowledging the sacrifices women make for their children. That’s why she was determined to keep “Mother’s” a singular possessive, as marked by the apostrophe before “s”. Each family should celebrate its own mother, so that individual women across the country could feel the love, even in the midst of a broad celebraon off motherhood.

Even aer Anna Jarvis was successful in geng Mother’s Day made an official naonal holiday, she wasn’t sasfied with the way that holiday was celebrated. She had teamed up with florists while she was lobbying to get the holiday recognized, even recommending a white carnaon as the symbolic flower of Mother’s Day.

However, in the first few years of the holiday’s official existence, Jarvis observed as florists, candy-makers and card-makers, and even charies used Mother’s Day as a way to make an extra buck. The commercializaon of Mother’s Day, according to Jarvis, defeated the whole point of a holiday that was supposed to be about celebrang the personal, individual connecon between a mother and her children.

From about 1920 onward, Jarvis fought hard to prevent businesses from profing by means of Mother’s Day cards, candy, flowers, and other gis. Although she fought to be recognized as the one and only “Mother of Mother’s Day,” she later lobbied to have the holiday removed from the calendar of naonal holidays, and spent piles of her own money in lawsuits against profiteers she saw as using the Mother’s Day name in vain.

¿Amar y sostener a tu familia?
