Sacrament of Baptism: Prior to the Baptism, the parents must speak with the priest and also attend a Baptism Class. Please contact the parish in which the child is to be baptized. Sacrament of Matrimony: Arrangements should be made at least six months prior to your wedding date. Please contact the parish in which the wedding is to occur. A date will be set only after contacting a priest. Sacrament of the Sick: Please contact any of the three parishes, or see a priest after Mass. Holy Communion for the sick: Please contact Deacon Al, or any of the three parishes. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): This is the process to become Catholic, or for Catholics to receive the rest of their Sacraments of Initiation. We also offer programs for children. ANDREW THE APOSTLE THOUGHTS BY REV KEV Today, Christ enters the Jordan to wash away the sin of the world. John himself testifies that this is why he has come: “Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.” Today a servant lays his hands on the Lord, a man lays his hand on God, John lays his hand on Christ, not to forgive but to receive forgiveness. Today as the psalmist prophesied: “The voice of the Lord is heard above the waters. What does the voice say? This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Today as parishioners under the patronage of Saint Andrew, let us be renewed through the sprinkling rite and accept the role of pointing out that Jesus is truly present in our communi- ties! Invite others to understand the love, mercy and grace that Jesus can offer to those who follow Him as Andrew did. RUMINATIONS BY FR. PAT You probably can guess, since I grew up attending Mass at St. Anthony, that when I was Baptized, I was Baptized at the same Baptismal Font that is present in the front at St. Andrew – Monongahela. It was June 14, 1964. Don’t be silly, I don’t remember, but I do have a Bap- tismal Certificate! When people think of Baptism, they think (rightly) of Original Sin. If Baptism is the re- moval of Original Sin, does it mean that Jesus had Original Sin, since He was Baptized? The answer is no. He did not have Original Sin. So why was He Baptized? While Original Sin in an integral part of the theology of Baptism, it isn’t the only part. Besides the removal of Original Sin, another integral part of Baptism is the Death and New Birth of the individual. Through the waters of Baptism, we die to our old life of sin and arise a new creation. If sin was the only thing involved, the Baptism of John the Baptist would have been enough. Jesus showed us that there is more to a life with God. It is more than just getting rid of sin. Baptism entails a transformation of the whole of the person into a new Creation in Christ. St Paul states in 2 Corinthians: So whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come. He also states in Romans: Don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Jesus was teaching that confessing sins is not enough. A drastic change of heart and Life- style was needed. Go beyond the parties, the pictures, the gowns, etc. See the new life that can only come from Christ. Die to your old life of Sin and become a new creation.     SAINT ANDREW THE APOSTLE November 30 A Reading from the Letter of Paul to the Romans (10:8b-18) But what does it say? “The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. The scripture says, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent?     Daily Saints - 30 November Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle He is the patron saint of anglers, fishermen, boatmen, mariners, sailors, watermen, butchers, farmworkers, fish dealers, fishmongers, happy marriages, miners, pregnant women, rope makers, sailmakers, single laywomen, singers, textile workers, unmarried women, water carriers, women who wish to become mothers and against convulsions, against fever, against gout, against neck pain, against sore throats, against whooping cough. The name "Andrew" means in Greek: "manly, brave". Andrew was born in the village of Bethsaida on the Sea of Galilee during the early first century. He was one of the first Apostles and the brother to St. Peter. He was the son of Jonas or John, a fisherman of that town. Much like his younger brother, Simon Peter, Andrew was also a fisherman. They had afterward a house at Capharnaum, where Jesus lodged when he preached in that city. Andrew was known for having good social skills. He was also a disciple of John the Baptist. In the Gospel of Matthew, it is said Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee and saw Andrew and Simon Peter fishing. It is then he asked the two to become disciples and "fishers of men." In the Gospel of Luke, Andrew is not initially named. It describes Jesus using a boat, believed to be solely Simon's, to preach to the multitudes and catch a large amount of fish on a night that originally was dry. Later, in Luke 5:7, it mentions Simon was not the only fisherman on the boat, but it is not until Luke 6:14 that there is talk of Andrew being Simon Peter's brother.

    THE ORDER OF THE HOLY CROSS ORDO 2020 Holy Cross Monastery Edition West Park, NY The Ordo of the Order of the Holy Cross is the official calendar of feasts and fasts observed in our community along with their rank or degree of solemnity. This Ordo follows the calendar authorized by the Chapter of the Order in 2017. It may be used with The Monastic Breviary in either its 1976 or revised forms, with the service books published by the Camaldolese Benedictines, or with any other authorized form of the daily office. Observances listed as First Class feasts begin with First Vespers on the preceding evening and generally take precedence over all other observances. Second Class feasts do not have a First Vespers; their Vespers take precedence over the Saturday Vespers preceding an ordinary Sunday. Third Class feasts are observed with their own office, elements of which are taken either from the Proper or the Common of Saints in the service books used. Fourth Class feasts, also called Optional Commemorations, do not have their own office but may be commemorated at Matins [or Vigils and Lauds] and Vespers or observed at the Eucharist of the day or both. A table of such commemorations recently observed in our Order can be found at the end of this booklet. Local communities or households will need to determine if and how they wish to observe them. In this Ordo, First and Second Class feasts that are impeded are transferred to the next day of lesser rank. Local communities or households may choose to transfer them to some other available day in the week that follows their assigned date.
