TEEN APOLOGETICS— LEARN HOW TO DEFEND YOURSELF against the misunderstandings about our faith! Classes begin September 11 on Mondays from 7-9 in the Fr. Pilecki Room! Parents are welcome to attend.

WHY have your child take this course? Many have found that their child "…had acquired an atheist's heart since leaving home and attending college” as one mother put it. How will your child stand up against this assault on their beliefs when so many have collapsed in the face of it ? How many of your older children or friends have left the Catholic faith & you don’t know what to say or do to help them return? CLASS DETAILS: Starts Sept. 11 and runs every other Monday till April 23 rd —come to 1 class or all! This class will involve a small bit of fictional reading (optional), guest speakers, class presentations, video presentations, and learning how to use your speedily to defend the Faith!

There will be NO charge for this course except the cost of your child's soft back book (optional). Mid-to- older teens seem to absorb the most out of the class. If you have any additional questions before you make a decision, please, call or email me, Barbara Furnari @ 878-2838, or [email protected] .

I am Maryann Barlett, a Spiritual Mentor for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. . My husband Ed and I have been married for 37 years , and we are the parents of 4 exceptional adults; Fr. Barlett is our middle son. At the encouragement of Fr. Rogers, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I will begin to offer a Grief Apostolate. Why a Grief Apostolate, because it is needed at St. Andrew the Apostle. Many members of our parish family are hurting and we wish to offer comfort, support, understanding and guidance, in a prayerful setting. We will meet monthly, on the third Tuesday, beginning Oct 17th, from 6:30-8 PM, in the Parish Conference Room. One definition of grief is the normal process of reacting to a loss. A personal experience of loss may include death of a loved one, the ending of an important relationship, a serious medical diagnosis, job loss, or the loss of independ- ence through disability. These struggles of sharp sorrow or painful regret are Holy Ground, and with the aid of scripture, prayer and conversation, healing can be found. Psalm 34:19-20- The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, saves those whose spirit is crushed. Many are the troubles of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him from them all. Faith Formaon 6

Hello fellow parishioners of Andrew the Apostle Parish, I am Barlett. This is now my third year of seminary studies at Saint Gregory the Great Seminary. It has been a crazy but amaz- ing summer. I have been assigned to work Totus Tuus, and many of you know I had the privilege of running one week here at St. Andrews. It has been a great experience, and I have had the opportunity to meet all kinds of wonderful people from all over the diocese. I am so very grateful to St. Andrew’s parish for the wonderful support they have given me. I have only officially been a member of this wonderful parish for about half a year, and I al- ready feel like a member of the parish family. We seminarians re- ceive such wonderful support from all of you, both financially and through your prayers, and not one of us could do what we do without your support. Thank you all so much for your prayers and donations and please be assured of my prayers as well, and God bless. Silas E. Barlett
