Our parish of Saint Andrew is able to see these words put into action with the Transition of Father Pat and newly Ordained Father Joe. In the reading Jesus send his disciples out to preach and offer people the chance to receive the grace of Jesus in the sacramental life of the church. Just as Jesus prepared his disciples so did the years of formation the Seminary Priests had. We are invited to understand what it means to go out to the people that they are entrusted to serve.

Like that of the Disciples Jesus sends them out two by two, Father Pat will be assigned to work with Father William Wuenschel and Father Joe will be asked to work together with Father Jerry and myself. One of the reasons for the disciples going out by two’s is that they are witnessing to what Jesus taught them. For a valid testimony in the time of Jesus were needed. So too, Father Pat has worked with our clergy team to plan and serve your needs and to witness our faith as we have worked towards creating one parish. Father Pat will begin to use his talents and gifts with Father Wuenschel and the staff at Saint Aiden’s as they continue to grow as a parish. Similarly, Father Joe will bring his knowledge to collaborate with our Parish Teams to help Saint Andrew’s to grow and meet the needs of the entire parish from the youth to the many ministries.

Like in the gospel Jesus owns the personal experience of being by those in his hometown, the disciples saw first hand how some people would not always accept and welcome Jesus. Our Lord also would take his disci- ples on the side and teach them the meaning of the parables and why He came into our world! So too, like Tom each priest is asked to prepare for the ministry of Priesthood in the Seminary. Tom will return back to the academics of Saint Vincent Seminary so that he can further be rooted in the knowledge of Scripture, Catholic Teachings, Moral Theology and Canon Law for his future years as an ordained priest.

The role as a Diocesan Priest is one of service, not just to a particular parish or assignment but to the local church—The Diocese of Pittsburgh. Zubik has the responsibility to assign priests for the good of the Church and provide spiritual and pastoral needs of the people of God.

May we all continue to pray for Father Pat and his transition to Saint Aiden’s and also for Father Joe as he be- gins his ministry as a newly ordained minister.

July 11th marks the Feast of Saint Benedict

How appropriate that this weekend the church remembers the feast of Saint Benedict who can inspire each of us in our daily lives. One of the charisms of the Benedictine is, “Let all guests who arrive be received like Christ.” This week we are asked to welcome Father Joseph Uzar in our homes and community as he begins his ministry to you the people of Saint Andrew the Apostle.

The Church has been blessed through Saint Benedict in his devotion to the liturgy, not only in it’s actual celebration with a rich and proper ceremony but also through his scholarly studies of many of its Benedict Members. One of Saint Benedict’s famous quotes is “Pray while you work!” Doing the Work of God is very important but more importantly is how you complete your work, as Saint Benedict says, “he who labors as he prays lifts his heart to God with his hands.”

Let us as the Family of Saint Andrew Pray, Work, and Celebrate our Faith Together! ST. ANDREW THE APOSTLE Food Bank News By: Deacon Al

You belong here… Exploring the possibilities - is the Catholic Faith Rite for me?

Each year, parishes across the diocese typically begin classes in the fall months for those interested in learning more about Catholicism. Whether you’re set on joining the , want to explore the possibilities or are already Catholic and want a refresher, we believe the RCIA (Rite of Initiation of Adults) is the perfect place to begin. The initial sessions are set up to create a place of safety for your thoughts and questions. After these sessions are completed, a more in depth study explaining the what, why’s and when’s of our faith are completed each week for a 2 hour period in the evenings once per week with Fr Kevin & Deacon Al. To register please call any of our sites or see any of the clergy team before or after mass.

Eucharistic Ministers to begin again at Saint Andrews… Throughout Covid-19 and for the safety of all, a decision was made for the clergy to be the only Ministers of the Eucharist. Beginning in July 2021, will begin again using those trained as Extraordinary Ministers to assist the clergy team with distribution of our Lord’s Body during Holy Mass, as more and more are coming back to Church, and Tom the seminarian will be returning to his studies at St Vincent’s. *** Please Note*** The Diocese of Pittsburgh has updated the policy with a new format of “Protecting Gods Children training”. For those volunteering to serve the Church, or any Church employee who has not taken the class within the last three years, this update will be required to continue. For more information, please see/call Helena Glaneman at our Mon City site -724-258-7742 ext. 9 or speak with Deacon Al.

PITTSBURGH—The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh is calling for a new class of interested and qualified Catholic men to begin formation to serve the Church as permanent deacons, according to an announcement today by Bishop A. Zubik. In addition, the bishop said he intends to resume admitting additional classes into the Deacon Formation Program every other year, which was the practice of the diocese before the COVID-19 pandemic. “Recognizing the vital role of our deacons—along with our , priests, religious and laity—in making the Church of Pittsburgh a vibrant manifestation of The Church Alive!, I am pleased to call for another class of men to enter the Deacon Formation Program,” the bishop said. “In doing so, I highlight the fact that service, which is the defining characteristic of the diaconate, has always been at the heart of the Church’s ministry,” he added.
