It is a matter for thankfulness that during 1883 we were enabled to place in safe homes, either in Canada or the U. States, 38 children. With the exception of 12, they were children whose" surroundings" were such that their only hope lay in putting the ocean betwe n them! The twelve who form the exception to this rule were those who went out to Mr. Moody's Training Homes at Northfield, Massachusetts. This event, which formed an interesting and important feature in last year's work, had much in it that we felt was truly providential. The very same week that Mr. Moody made the offer of receiving into his Homes and Training for Mission work 12 boys from our Orphan Homes, we received a letter from a gentleman-a perfect stranger to us-to say that having been a resident for awhile in Canada and the States, and seeing the openings there for boys

Many interesting gath rings have resulted, and the large numb r of lad present testifies to the popularity of the meetings. We ar pleased to note instanc s of much good b ll1g done by the direct
