THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO:

• those who responsible for organising our many Retiring Collections. Their commitment and dedication are greatly appreciated THE RETIRING COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND – is for CAFOD. I hope you remembered to bring to church today the money you saved from fasting two weeks ago! • CAFOD is appealing for more donations this year by encouraging us to 'go the extra mile' by possibly donating an extra £10.00 to buy sturdy water containers; or an extra £40.00 to enable safe drinking water to a hard-to- reach school; or an extra £750.00 to supply water to a whole community. Leaflets are available in the church porches with details about how to do this. Thank you. (28/2) (7/3)

ANOTHER APPEAL IS BEING MADE – for tinned food for visitors to the presbytery who are finding it very hard to feed themselves and their families at this time. The following items would be much appreciated by them: Fray Bentos pies Corned beef Meat balls (in tomato sauce!) Ham Chicken Spam Pears Pineapple chunks Sugar Long life milk (semi skimmed!) Coffee Rice pudding Mushy peas Fish Thank you so much for your continuing generosity. (28/2) (7/3)

THE DIOCESAN DEPARTMENT FOR FORMATION – has produced a weekly Eco Thought throughout Lent. This week's is: The First Reading today gives us the Ten Commandments. Concerning ‘Keep the Sabbath day holy’ we hear ‘in six days the made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that these hold but on the sabbath day he rested.’ The whole of creation is the work of our Creator God. What, I wonder, did our Creator God do on the eighth day, according to the spirit of the Genesis account? I think that, after his Sabbath rest, God carried on his enduring work of creation and, in Jesus, re- creation.

God’s task of bringing the whole of creation to its fulfilment is not ended. God has the broader vision but we can take necessary steps so that creation is not ended but fulfilled. What step can I take this Lent to live more simply and sustainably?

THE DRAMA DISPLAYED: A JOURNEY OF SALVATION – is the title of a free series of online talks offered by the Christian Heritage Centre, Stonyhurst. A range of excellent speakers will examine the key moments of salvation history, with the aid of great works of art at 7:30pm on every second Thursday of the month. The next talk takes place on Thursday and the last one will be on 25th March. Signs of Passion is the title of Thursday's talk. For more information and/or registration please visit: christianheritagecentre.com/events/the-drama-displayed/ (10/1) (24/1) (7/2) (21/2) (7/3)

THE GLOBAL CATHOLIC MOVEMENT – is hosting a series of reflective evenings throughout Lent with inspiring speakers, prayer and discussion. In 2015, Pope Francis published his ground-breaking letter on the environment Laudato Si. Since then, millions of people worldwide have joined the global movement to address the environmental crisis our world is facing. The fourth in this series is on Thursday evening at 7.30. These engaging documentaries will inform and challenge people to respond to Pope Francis’ call to Care for Our Common Home. The talks are very important for all who are concerned about what is happening to our world and who want to take action. Pope Francis says, “Living our vocation to be protectors of God's handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or secondary aspect of our Christian experience...... Truly, much can be done!” (Laudato Si, 217 & 180) To register, email [email protected]; (7/2) (14/2) (21/2) (28/2) (7/3)

LIVING LAUDATO SI': YOUR PARISH & YOUR PLANET – is the title of a Zoomed retreat from Boarbank Hall, Cumbria. It comprises a long-weekend of talks, discussions and practical activities on living the message of Laudato Si' in and through parishes. Any interested parishioners are most welcome to join in. The weekend is aimed especially at people with parish responsibilities or who are part of or want to start a relevant parish group. Timings Sessions will start on Friday evening, Saturday morning and evening, Sunday afternoon and evening and Monday evening (leaving people free during the day on Monday). Cost - voluntary donations gratefully accepted, but there will be no fee for the weekend. To apply, simply email Sr Margaret Atkins on [email protected]

SALFORD DIOCESE IS CONDUCTING – an Environmental Case Study and its organisers are collecting information about things that are going on across the Diocese that have something to do with sustainability or ecology. They would like to know if there are things happening in parishes, schools or in the community. This could be almost anything – it could be the creation of a wildlife garden, tree planting, food growing, the formation of an environmental committee and activities, screening environmental films and hosting discussions, environmental education programmes or the installation of renewable energy for example. If you know of any activities like this that you would like to share, please let them know. The work that you, your friends or your colleagues have been doing might be interesting or helpful to the work of other people, across Salford Diocese and in other dioceses, parishes or schools. They would like to hear about anything that you think is relevant. For more information and to contribute to the Environmental Case Study please visit the Salford Diocesan Website. (7/3)

Keep safe and keep well.

May God bless you and St Aidan and St Oswald pray for you. Fr Stephen. ©
