Salford City Football Club Lionesses Manager Welcome to Salford City

Salford City Football Club was founded in 1940 as Salford Central, and for many years the Club competed in the amateur ranks of the football pyramid.

That changed in the 1970s after a period as one of Greater ’s prominent sides, and in 1980 the Club was accepted into the semi-professional Cheshire League, becoming founder members of the North West Counties Football League in 1982. When a second promotion place became available in 2007-08 Salford were promoted to Step 4 of the non-league pyramid, the Northern First Division North.

In March 2014 it was announced that former Manchester United players , , Gary and Phil Neville and had completed a takeover of Salford City, determined to put something back into local football in an area where they spent a majority of their formative years. After four promotions in five seasons The Ammies reached the Football League for the first time and currently compete in Sky Bet League Two.

When Salford City Lionesses were formed in 2018 it was another historic moment for the Club to have a dedicated women’s team for the first time ever. The team was created to give women and girls in Salford and the surrounding areas an opportunity to play competitive football, but with the ambition of playing at the highest possible level. Promotion was secured in the first season along with the GMWFL Cup and Shield, and the Lionesses were top of the NWWRFL Division 1 South before Coronavirus halted both subsequent seasons.
