Peter worked as a surveyor for George Wimpey between 1962 and 1981, and still keeps in touch with his former colleagues through an annual reunion. From 1959 to 1965 Peter was a semi-professional cyclist, and he competed in the 1961 Tour de France as part of the Peter winning the Sheffield Grand Prix in 1962, GB/IRL team. a few months after joining George Wimpey.
