From the Headteacher

Spring Concert On Wednesday evening, the Music department invited students and parents from our local primary schools to enjoy a wonderful evening of music. The evening featured pieces from the Brass Bunch, the String Group, the Singing Group, the Friday Band and the Jazz Band. It was an amazing evening which delighted all and, once again, I was immensely proud of all the talented students who performed. They were a credit to themselves and the school. A big thank you to Mr Wells, Ms Galbraith, Max Tuohy and Julian Costello for organising the event. Take a look at our Spring Concert photo gallery on Flickr.

Congratulations to Cerys our Olympic Studios Prize-Winning Author! Cerys Wainer, in Year 8, has won the 12-14 year old category in a writing competition organised by Olympic Studios in Barnes. Her story will feature in an illustrated collection by Unicorn Press and is set to be made into a short film, premiering in July. Find out more about her achievement on our website.

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award Practice Expedition Report 121 Year 10 students embarked on their Bronze DofE practice expedition last weekend to the New Forest. It was a fantastic weekend where all 20 groups worked well together successfully to complete their expedition. Miss Mosley, who leads DofE at Orleans Park, received an email from the campsite owner on Monday morning saying that our students ‘were polite, friendly and considerate of others,’ and helped ‘to collect the litter that had been dropped.’ Well done to Year 10 and thank you to the 15 staff that supported the students over the weekend! Take a look at the trip report on our website.

Sophie Wins Gold Congratulations to Sophie Johnson, in Year 9, for winning three gold medals at the Guildford Open Level 1 Swimming Gala. Sophie, who has represented Swimming Club for six years, won gold medals in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke. Well done Sophie!

Attendance Matters

Well done to YORK house for having the highest attendance for the period of Monday 13 to Friday 17 February 2015.

10 house points will be added to their total.

Orleans Park Ski Trip 2016

Thank you on behalf of all the staff that attended this year’s ski trip to Val Di Fiemme – Italy; all of the students were exceptionally behaved and a real credit to the school.

A large number of students purchased some great photos of themselves and their friends on the final day – as well as capturing some amazing shots themselves whilst out with their ski leaders.

I am asking all parents/carers and students to take the time to choose two photos that they love the best and send them in to me for a big display of their memories.

I would appreciate it if all photographs could be sent to my email address below. Thank you.

OPSA COLUMN

Could you be the next OPSA Chair? After two and a half years at the helm, Mathilda and I are stepping down at Monday’s AGM (see below). We are leaving a strong OPSA with an excellent Secretary and Treasurer, plenty of fundraising potential and parent/carer support. All it needs is you! If you would like to find out more please email [email protected] or [email protected] without delay.

Comedy Night Success We are delighted to say that last Thursday’s Comedy Night raised a terrific £1,500. Well done and thanks to all who helped and supported!

AGM – Monday 27 April On Monday we hold our Annual General Meeting: a look back at the year, how much has been raised and some of the things these extra funds have provided for our children. All parents/carers are welcome and drinks and nibbles are provided. www.opsa.org.uk

Kingston University Discovery Day

A group of Year 7 students spent an interesting and inspiring day at Kingston University, meeting and talking to undergraduates, touring the campus and discovering something of student life at university. The day culminated in groups of students designing their own “dream” campus.

School Uniform

Having made the decision to update the school uniform from September 2015 so that it truly reflects our high expectations and vision for the school, we have been running down the present stock in our school shop. We currently have a limited supply of stock and are no longer ordering any new stock. All our stock is now being sold for half the original price and can be ordered either online through the school website or through Reception at the school. Please note that availability of all items and sizes cannot therefore be guaranteed. From September 2015 we expect all students in the new Year 7 cohort to wear the new uniform. All students from Years 8 to11 may wear the new uniform if they wish to.

From September 2016 we expect all students from Years 7 to 11 to wear the new uniform.
