His principal client instant when our long wheelbase Transit was side swiped in Basingstoke in those days was Cat Stevens, who was well on his way to being a global by a jack-knifing flatbed, killing Paul Scard, our 19-year-old roadie, and superstar. One day after a Matthews session I was taking my time packing injuring Andy Rochford, his colleague. up my guitars, when in strolled Alan Davies, who was Steve’s right hand man on acoustic (still is, as far as I know). Alan and I knew each other from The musicians in the band were all safely back in London when it way back, when we had both at various times played with Jeremy Taylor happened. Earlier we had played at Southampton University, and I was and Sydney Carter. I showed him the Kriwaczek String Organ I had with Plainsong rehearsal photographs by Harry Isles sitting in drummer John Pearson’s kitchen in Bruton Place, having a cup me (a unique stringed instrument, designed by a great friend of mine, of of tea with John, Dave Richards and Paul, when Andy Rochford phoned up which I was at that time the sole exponent!), and then we began playing to ask if Paul could possibly return to Southampton to fetch him.

CULTURAL PARTNERSHIP STRATEGY 2015 - 2019 FOREWORD I am delighted to present Richmond upon Thames’ Cultural Partnership Strategy 2015 – 2019. The strategy defines the Borough’s commitment to the creative arts and aims to ensure that Richmond continues to be known for providing a high quality cultural environment for both residents and visitors alike. Culture enriches the lives of everyone and makes a valuable contribution to the health and wellbeing of our community. Through our Cultural Partnership Strategy I believe we have the opportunity to extend the quality and impact of the arts sector. It has been a pleasure to see the Borough’s cultural community working together to develop and shape this strategy. It is exciting to see the commitments that have been made and I am thrilled by the possibilities that this will bring to us all in Richmond upon Thames over the next four years. Councillor Meena Bond Cabinet Member for Arts, Culture and Sport 2 CULTURAL PARTNERSHIP STRATEGY 2015 - 2019 INTRODUCTION This Cultural Partnership Strategy sets out the four-year strategy for culture in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames 2015- 2019 which has been developed in partnership between the cultural organisations in the Borough and the Council. The strategy outlines the Cultural Partnership’s shared vision for culture in the Borough. We believe collaboration across the local cultural sector will achieve the greatest benefit for residents in terms of our individual lives; our community; individual wellbeing and the local economy. The Strategy focuses on three goals which we believe our resources can most effectively be invested, as individual organisations, and through the Council’s cultural services and commissioned activities.

  • Jon Astley When I Was Asked to Remaster the Who Catalogue, I Couldn’T find Any Tommy Masters at All in the MCA (Universal) Vaults
Resolution 3.2 March 04 3/3/04 9:09 PM Page 44 craft ‘What do you think?’ We said it sounded fantastic so he mixed the whole of the album, I put it on a DVD-A here, we sent it to the label and some other people, got some input, then started all over again! It was getting feedback about placement — was he being too extreme, putting guitars in the back speakers — that sort of thing. Elliot brought the Neal Young 5.1 with him to demonstrate. Pete was encouraged, we said: ‘There are no rules, do what you think sounds good.’ When he first put the 8-track 1-inch up, Pete couldn’t believe how great the bass and drums sounded compared to the result on the LP, so initially he set it out to be a sort of tribute to Keith and John because the playing is just so great. The Who were so late in delivering the original Tommy that Kit Lambert was left in the studio to finish mixing it while they went on the road. It’s Kit’s mix on the vinyl LP, and it was Kit’s mix that Andy Macpherson and I emulated when we remixed it in stereo in 1995 — the reason we did that was because no one could find the masters. This must be the moment for you to reveal to Resolution readers the truth behind the long run- ning rumours of missing Tommy master tapes! Jon Astley When I was asked to remaster the Who catalogue, I couldn’t find any Tommy masters at all in the MCA (Universal) vaults.
