Mike’s reason for this design is so that the stick has a slightly added front weight for a solid, consistent “throw” and transient sound. With the extra length, you can adjust how much front weight you’re implementing by slightly moving your fulcrum .580" point up or down on the stick. You’ll also get a fat sounding rimshot crack from the added front weighted taper. Designing for the Ears As Well As for the Eyes
Inspicio architecture 26 Sushi & Tapas restaurant, Surfside, Florida, 2015. Photo: WSDG Designing for the Ears as Well as for the Eyes By Howard Sherman orris J. Kaplan is a very hands-on businessman. A successful real estate developer and innovative res- M taurateur/entrepreneur, his career track is marked by imaginative ventures. Last year, Kaplan and his wife Sandra began laying the groundwork for a new Miami-area restaurant. A longtime fan of master chef Fernando Chang’s culinary tal- ents, Kaplan was confident there would be a strong demand for Chef Chang’s specialty—Kosher sushi and Peruvian dishes. Kaplan invested considerable time collaborating on the bill of fare and the interior design of his new restaurant. In addition to the menu, one of his primary concerns was acoustics. An avid “foodie,” Kaplan had long avoided dining in restaurants with noise levels so high they intruded on his guests’ ability to enjoy a simple conversation along with their meal. Kaplan made a promise to himself. Diners at his new restaurant would be able to discuss their food (and other topics) without having to shout at the top of their lungs. Coincidentally, as he formulated his plans for what was to be- come “26 Sushi & Tapas” in Surfside, Florida, Kaplan was also involved in building two new Miami area synagogues. During the course of a series of visits to those construction sites, he became aware of an unusually quiet ambience. Building sites are typically noisy environments and neither of these work sites would ever be mistaken for a library, but Kaplan discovered a sound clarity that was unusual enough to spark an investiga- tion. -

ANDY ROBERTS 01 URBAN COWBOY www.thebeesknees.com ANDY ROBERTS 02 URBAN COWBOY The first seeds for this album were sown in October 1970. Everyone, my Morgan Studios had been started by well-known drummer Barry Morgan post Liverpool Scene band, was put out of business in a devastating four years before, and was Samwell’s studio of choice. His principal client instant when our long wheelbase Transit was side swiped in Basingstoke in those days was Cat Stevens, who was well on his way to being a global by a jack-knifing flatbed, killing Paul Scard, our 19-year-old roadie, and superstar. One day after a Matthews session I was taking my time packing injuring Andy Rochford, his colleague. up my guitars, when in strolled Alan Davies, who was Steve’s right hand man on acoustic (still is, as far as I know). Alan and I knew each other from The musicians in the band were all safely back in London when it way back, when we had both at various times played with Jeremy Taylor happened. Earlier we had played at Southampton University, and I was and Sydney Carter. Cultural Partnership Strategy 2015 - 2019 Foreword
CULTURAL PARTNERSHIP STRATEGY 2015 - 2019 FOREWORD I am delighted to present Richmond upon Thames’ Cultural Partnership Strategy 2015 – 2019. The strategy defines the Borough’s commitment to the creative arts and aims to ensure that Richmond continues to be known for providing a high quality cultural environment for both residents and visitors alike. Culture enriches the lives of everyone and makes a valuable contribution to the health and wellbeing of our community. Through our Cultural Partnership Strategy I believe we have the opportunity to extend the quality and impact of the arts sector. It has been a pleasure to see the Borough’s cultural community working together to develop and shape this strategy. It is exciting to see the commitments that have been made and I am thrilled by the possibilities that this will bring to us all in Richmond upon Thames over the next four years. Councillor Meena Bond Cabinet Member for Arts, Culture and Sport 2 CULTURAL PARTNERSHIP STRATEGY 2015 - 2019 INTRODUCTION This Cultural Partnership Strategy sets out the four-year strategy for culture in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames 2015- 2019 which has been developed in partnership between the cultural organisations in the Borough and the Council. The strategy outlines the Cultural Partnership’s shared vision for culture in the Borough. We believe collaboration across the local cultural sector will achieve the greatest benefit for residents in terms of our individual lives; our community; individual wellbeing and the local economy. The Strategy focuses on three goals which we believe our resources can most effectively be invested, as individual organisations, and through the Council’s cultural services and commissioned activities. -
