Two nights of sheer fun celebrating the beauty of the human form, adult and child alike, as they dance to the music in a variety of tempting creations and desired brands offered by Barnes fashion retailers. For the full list of retailers and pictures from the show go to barnescharityfashionshow.com. This year’s show was sponsored by estate agents, Knight Frank, and brought to the public by the increasingly Fashion from Marco Tripoli professional team led by Isobel Woolf with choreographer Lisa Mac, the continued support of the Hartley family and a host of volunteers and generous local businesses. The first night was opened by the dazzling and talented Lisa Rollin from Red Hot Music Agency, the second by singer songwriter, Susie Webb, who has recently released the Bossa Loves Abba album. Most of the fashion stalwarts of Barnes were showing their collections. Carolyn de la Drapière was missing this year, but there were two newcomers, Iris and Ridley & Three beauties at the Co, both recently having moved into Church Road. after-show party Last year, this event raised £10,000 in support of local Truelove lingerie with millinery by Anne Gretton charities and it is hoped to have raised even more this year for the three charities that will share the proceeds: The Friends of St Mary’s Barnes, Age UK Richmond upon Thames based conveniently in the Barnes Green Centre; and Paddock School, a special school for pupils with learning difficulties and autism. Regular Prospect readers will have noted (in the Regular Events listing) that Paddock School’s Priory Lane café does very good lunches during term time. Last but not least, a significant contribution to the proceeds comes from the popular raffle prize donors: penny-bennett.com; lindasullivanmakeupartist.com; kateandersonspa.co.uk; Majestic Wines; and the after-show parties where the Prosecco continued to flow and any guilt could be assuaged by the reminder that all proceeds were going to charity! She will be running on the BCA’s guaranteed charity place to raise funds for our defibrillator project. The mum of two (Rufus 5 and Catriona 2), who works as an Executive Assistant and lives with her husband Jamie and family in Grove Road, is stepping up her fitness training to take on this awesome challenge. Carol is a keen cyclist and teaches spinning classes at a local health club. She is no stranger to charity endurance events – she ran the Berlin Marathon in 2007 and she and her husband cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats raising thousands of pounds for Kidney Research in 2008. Carol, who is looking forward to this latest challenge, will be training with Barnes Runners and has strong personal motivation to succeed: “The reason that I am running to raise the funds for the BCA’s defibrillators is that I lost my mum (2007) and my dad (2013) to sudden heart attacks. Having defibrillators close to hand could have changed the outcome for my parents, so if I can help another family with making this vital equipment readily accessible then that has to be a good outcome all round.” We wish Carol all the best with her training and fundraising. Running 26.2 miles and striving to reach a target of £3K is no mean feat. If you’d like to see more defibrillators in the community, please sponsor Carol now. You can do this safely and securely online at: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/CarolCarrSutherland. Or if you prefer, send a cheque to the BCA at Rose House with a note that it is for Carol’s Marathon Sponsorship. Mike, William and Steven deliver the old boat Micky Forster

Take your partners for rubber bridge Do you play bridge? Do you have a bridge partner? Would you enjoy a few rubbers in a long established local club? Make a new group of friends in the comfortable surroundings of Rose House, home of the BCA, and enjoy a standard of play to keep your little grey cells active. The club meets on Monday evenings, starting at 7.30pm and finishing at 10pm. Convenient 209 bus stops are to be found in the High Street and by Barnes Pond. Increased club membership would add interest to the meetings, where both you and your partner would find a very warm welcome. If you do not already have a partner, the club may be able to find you one. The cost is £2 per head for the evening, to cover the cost of room hire, playing cards, score sheets, pencils and (dare I say it?) rubbers.
