The Ingham Conservation District promotes and practices Pick Up: SPRING 2019 stewardship of our natural resources by serving, educating and empowering our community.

Apple trees will also be available from our spring catalog (due out in January), but we cannot guarantee the availability of individual varieties.

AMBROSIA – a sweet, low-acid apple with a distinct honeyed aroma; it is crunchy and chin-dribbling-juicy. Mature height 12-15 feet. apple requires a pollinator. Suggested pollinators: Crimson Crisp, Spitzenburg, , Availability is very limited; not available in 2020 due to high demand. 2 tree ordering limit.

CRIMSON CRISP – is medium in size with a very attractive crimson red color over 95% of the fruit surface. Crimson Crisp has a very firm, crisp texture with a tart, complex flavor. A fresh-eating favorite! Requires a pollinator. Suggest Honey Crisp, Spitzenburg, ,

GALA - one of the easiest to grow. Gala Apple is mildly sweet and easy-eating with a crisp and juicy texture. Their pleasant taste is one of the finest eating apples there is, which makes them a perfect addition to lunches and snacks. Requires a pollinator. Suggest , Cox Orange Pippin, Pink Lady, . Mature height 12-15 feet. Cold hardy to -30 F

HONEYCRISP -the current "super star" of the apple industry.. It is "explosively crisp" with an unbeatable sweet, juicy flavor. It is naturally large and will color well in cooler climates. Honeycrisp requires a pollinator. Suggest winter banana Harvest early in fall in mid-September. Mature Height: 12-15 feet

REDFIELD BRAEBURN - has all the juicy, sweet-tart flavor of other Braeburn strains, just colors better. Apples are very crisp and juicy with a sweet flavor combined with subtle hints of spice, pear, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Mature height 10-12 feet. Redfield Braeburn is considered self fertile, but a pollinator will increase the yield. Suggest Gala, Cox's Orange Pippin, , Pink Lady, or Newtown Pippin as a pollinator

SPITZENBERG – was one of Thomas Jefferson’s favorite apples. This tree’s fruit was once the standard of excellence for early American apples. Has exceptional, complex, spicy flavor that improves with time in storage. One of the finest for eating, canning, cooking, and juice. Ripens in late October. Best pollinators: any Golden Delicious, Newtown Pippin, or winter banana. Mature height 12-15 ft

WEALTHY – an old-American heritage variety for the North! Compact tree bears medium-sized, green fruit with a scarlet blush. Crisp white flesh, with occasional pink flecks. Fruit is multipurpose. The white-colored flesh is soft, crisp and good for both eating out of hand as well as cooking; they also make good drying and excellent apples. Antique variety, originates from Minnesota, circa 1860. Very Cold-hardy. Mature Height 12-15 feet. Requires a pollinator. Suggest any Golden Delicious or McIntosh

WINTER BANANA -an heirloom variety originating on the David Flory farm in Case County, Indiana, about 1876, and was introduced by the Greening Brothers Nursery of Monroe, Michigan, in 1890.The fruit have a subtle and sweet tropical aroma. Unique scent, described from pineapple to banana, livens up these firm, tangy, and juicy apples. Attractive and perfect for fresh-eating and for baking. Also stores well. Requires a pollinator. Ginger gold is a good choice. Cold-hardy. Great for habitat. Heavy pollen yields make this an excellent pollinator in orchards.

The Ingham Conservation District reserves the right to make substitutions and/or cancel orders and refund payment if necessary. Orders are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Quantities are limited.

Refund Policy: Orders cancelled after April 9, 2017 will not be refunded. Refunds will not be issued for cancelled orders until after the check has cleared the bank. The Ingham Conservation District cannot guarantee survival.

Trees are bare root stock. In accordance with Section 6 of Act 189, Public Act of 1931, plant stock purchased from the District may not be resold with roots attached.
