04/01/2020 Current GSU Engagements: GSU and HKBU at EAIE Conference (Sep 2019) Dr. Wolfgang Schlör (GSU Associate Provost of International Initiatives), Yvonne Lee (HKBU Director of International Affairs), Phoebe Yu (HKBU Assistant Office, Global Engagement), and Jennifer Chan (HKBU Senior Assistant Manager, Global Engagement) will attend the European Association for International Education (EAIE) Conference in Helsinki, Finland from Sep 24 – 27, 2019. During the EAIE conference Dr. Schör will meet with the HKBU staff to discuss the ongoing exchange program between the institutions.

HKBU Incoming Certification Program (Ongoing) GSU’s Office of International Initiatives (OII) is working with Dr. Gertrude Tinker Sachs (GSU Chair, Middle & Secondary Education) on a program to provide an International Certificate to HKBU Master’s level students in the Education . OII staff, Kike Ehigiator (GSU Director, International Partnerships & Agreements) and Nannette Commander (GSU Virtua Exchange Coordinator) have been working with both Dr. Tinker Sachs and Dr. Atara Sivan (HKBU Head & Professor, Dept. of Education Studies) plan to have a call in early October 2019 to move the initiative forward.

Prior GSU Engagements: HKBU Delegation Visit to GSU (May 2018) Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) visited GSU to learn specifically about the international student services GSU provides and how other different units on your campus have been able to work together to provide support services to the international constituents there. During the visit, HKBU met with the Office of International Initiatives, Enrollment, Student Affairs, University Advisement, and the Student Center to learn more about GSU's student services can include Admissions, Counseling, Advising, Housing, Study Abroad and various other areas.

Global Partnership for Better Cities – Hong Kong Sandpit (Nov/Dec 2017) From November 30 – December 3, 2017, HKBU hosted the Global Partnership for Better Cities – Hong Kong Sandpit. The Global Partnership for Better Cities includes faculty researchers from Georgia State University, Hong Kong Baptist University, City , University of Pretoria, University of Cape Town, and University of Western Cape to collaborate on joint research topics and programs.

GSU Delegation Visit to Asia (October 2016) From October 11 - 20, 2016, a GSU Delegation team visited the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, the University of Seoul, Hanyang University, Chung Ang University, Ewha Womans University, and Pusan National University. The delegation visit included presentations, meetings on research and discussions with faculty. HKBU Delegation Visit to GSU (March 2016) From March 28 – 29, 2016, GSU hosted a delegation visit from HKBU. HKBU visitors included Rick Wong (VP, Research and Development), Yiji Xia (Head of Biology), Hongjie Zhang (Associate Professor, School of Chinese Medicine) and Gary Wong (Assistant Dean, Institute of Science &Technology and Assistant Professor, Chemistry).

GSU Visit to HKBU (October 2015) A GSU Delegation trip to Hong Kong and Macau took place from October 23 - 30, 2015. On October 26th, GSU visited HKBU. GSU visitors included Risa Palm (Provost), Robin Morris (Associate Provost), Jun Liu (Associate Provost for International Initiatives), Mary Beth Walker (Dean AYSPS) and Don Reitzes (Associate Dean COAS). GSU Visit to HKBU (September 2014) A GSU Delegation trip to Hong Kong took place from September 17 – 23, 2014. On September 19th, GSU visited HKBU. GSU visitors included Risa Palm (Provost), Robin Morris (Associate Provost), Jun Liu (Associate Provost for International Initiatives), Mary Beth Walker (Dean AYSPS) and Don Reitzes (Associate Dean COAS). HKBU attendees included Rick Wong (VP Research & Development) and Huang Yu (Associate VP & Dean of Communication).

HKBU Visit to GSU (May 2014) In May of 2014, a delegation from Hong Kong Baptist University visited Georgia State to discuss research collaborations and a potential study abroad program with Georgia State’s Geosciences department.

HKBU Exploratory/Follow-up Visit to GSU (April 2014) On April 24, 2014 HKBU visited GSU to discuss next steps for programs. HKBU visitors included Rick Wong (VP, Research & Development), Yu Huang (Associate VP, Mainland Development), Pk Chiu (Director, General Administration Office), Zongwei Cai (Chemistry), Raymong Wong (Chemistry), Yiji Xia (Biology), Leihan Tang (Physics), Xunjin Zhu (Chemistry) and Gary Wong (Chemistry).

GSU faculty visit to HKBU to discuss faculty/student exchanges (April 2014) From April 19 – 28, 2014, Michael White visited in in . Potential faculty/student exchanges at either GSU or HKBU had been discussed. He visited HKBU during his travel to interview a faculty search candidate.

GSU Visit to HKBU (January 2014) A GSU Delegation trip to China took place from January 7 – 15, 2014. On January 14th, GSU visited HKBU. GSU visitors included Risa Palm (Provost), Tim Renick (Vice Provost), Jun Liu (Associate Provost for International Initiatives) and Binghe Wang (Chair of Chemistry Department). HKBU attendees included Rick Wong (VP Research & Development), Huang Yu (Associate VP & Dean of Communication), Li Aiping (Dean of Chinese Medicine), Adrian Bailey (Dean of Social Sciences), Peter Li (Director of International Office), Sandy Lee (International Programme Manager of International Office) and Christina Chan (Assistant Programme Manager of International Office).

GSU faculty met with HKBU for Potential Dual PhD in Drug Design (November 2013 - February 2014) HKBU will recruit doctoral students and offer courses in the first two years at their Haiman campus supported by Haiman City Government. The students will be matriculated to a few US universities, such as The and Georgia State University, among others, to continue doctoral studies and dissertation. Binghe and others met with HKBU to discuss implementing this initiative.

Research Collaboration in Geosciences (June 2013 – TBC) An active research collaboration currently exists between a GEOS faculty member (Daniel Deocampo) and the Head of HKBU’s Geography Department (Bernhart Owen). These two investigators are part of an international team assembled by the Smithsonian Institution’s Human Origins Program to analyze sediment cores obtained in Kenya. Data derived from these cores was expected to facilitate further determinations of paleoclimate change(s) associated with hominid evolution. Dan Deocampo was awarded a COAS DEEP funding that brought three HKBU Geography faculty to GSU April 29 - May 5, 2014 to convene a research symposium and develop specific funding proposal plans for the following year. Dan was also awarded a $400K NSF grant (award year unconfirmed) and Bernie Owen (HKBU) was a collaborator. Owen and Deocampo conducted research in Kenya in June 2014.
