Topography

The administrative district Traunstein, 1,533.95 km² (20% = 300 km² protected area), is the second largest administrative district of and stands with a number of inhabitants of a total of 176.726 (state: 06/2018) at tenth place in the Free State of Bavaria. The adminis- trative district reaches from north to south more than 65 km and from east to west more than 40 km. The Waginger See (9 km²) and the (79 km²) belong to the administrative district. Above-normal: 591 m

4 towns, 2 markets and 29 municipalities with a total of 1.939 places and settlements belong to the area.

The administrative district Traunstein forms together with the administrative districts Altötting, , Mühldorf and as well as the of Rosenheim the “Planungsregion 18”. It belongs to the EuRegiones „ - Berchtesgadener Land - Traunstein“ and "Inntal - Chiemsee - Kaisergebirge - Mangfalltal" and borders on three federal states Oberösterreich, Salzburg and Tirol. ______
