West: Dear Sacred Heart Family, This week, school begins for our children at Charleston Catholic. Please pray for our stu- dents, families, faculty, and staff as we begin another exciting and faith-filled school year! For your information, last month, the Bishop gave me an additional appointment as chaplain to The Citadel. As Sacred Heart has long-standing ties to The Citadel (it is actually in our parish boundaries), I’m looking forward to rekindling those bonds as we help to bring the cadets closer to Christ, as well as prepare them for Christian life after college. Tony Licari, the new campus minister there and a Sacred Heart parishioner, and I will be planning several events over the course of the year for the cadets. We may approach you from time to time looking for volunteers. We would greatly appreciate your prayers for the success of our campus ministry as well as your volunteer support should the need arise. Due to additional responsibilities at The Citadel, the 7am weekday Mass will now be cel- ebrated only Wednesday-Friday, with an additional evening Mass on First Fridays. My hope is to begin all-day adoration between the two Masses on First Fridays, so stay tuned for that. School Mass will, of course, remain at 9am on Wednesdays. Sadly though, attendance at this Mass will, for now, remain restricted to students and faculty. Finally, as I have assumed the campus ministry of The Citadel, we will resume the com- bined classes of RCIA. If you or someone you know is interested in the Catholic Faith, interest- ed in becoming Catholic, or are a baptized adult Catholic who has never received the Sacrament of Confirmation, please contact Tony Licari at: [email protected]; or by phone at 843-670-4664. Classes will be in the Newman Center on the 3rd floor of Mark Clark Hall at the Citadel, and will begin on Thursday, September 2, at 6:30pm.
