Taunton Vegan Fair Sat 3 August 2013

Welcome to the fourth Taunton Vegan Fair - our biggest yet! The fair is a celebration of all things vegan/veggie and everyone is welcome. A main feature is the free food tasters, with savouries, cakes and chocolates available to sample. There are also cookery demos, workshops, a vegan cafe, face painting, information stalls, local producers and ethical fashion. We hope today’s taster of vegan food and lifestyle leaves you wanting more and that’s where this booklet comes in. It includes local vegan information, recipes from today’s free food table and lots more: see the contents below. Finally, a massive thank you to our sponsors for their support and helping to make it possible. They are Animal Aid, , VegFund and Naturalife. Also a big thanks to our food and cosmetics donors who are listed on page 37 and to all the volunteers who have worked so hard.

6 Why Vegan? It has never been easier to , with great recipes, restaurants and shops, going vegan doesn’t mean missing out. Here’s more about the reasons why.

CHOOSE TO BE KINDER TO being kept in a shed with limited access ANIMALS to outside and to limited land.

You can choose to cut out animal Even in the better free range/organic products and make a powerful egg farms, all male chicks are killed statement that it’s time to stop within hours – useless by-products treating animals as commodities. as they do not lay eggs and are too scrawny for meat. The recent horse meat fiasco is another case in point - it seems that as a nation whilst we are horrified at the thought of old unwanted horses being used as filler in cheap burgers, most people do not care about the clapped out dairy cow spat out before her time by our dairy industry.

Farm animals are bred for the single purpose of being killed at the end of what is usually a life of misery. Whilst many people might point to ‘higher welfare’ free range and organic farming, this option still leads the animals to suffer in many ways.
