 SUNDAY WORSHIP commences at 2.30pm and is followed by tea & cakes at approx. 3.30pm ALL are welcome to join us for worship, tea and cakes or both – we’d love to see you.

Services for September are:- 1st – Rev. Bill Rowell 8th – All Age Cell Group (AACG) 15th – Rev. Bob Thomas – Holy Communion 22nd – AACG 29th – Mr Nigel Evans

All Age Cell Group worship is a more relaxed and informal type of praise and is usually led by one of our qualified Worship Leaders. Based on Wesley’s idea of small groups it includes discussion of The Word, prayers and singing. We usually meet in the Preacher’s Stable for this style of worship. The more formal services are held in the chapel itself and are led by either ordained clergy or qualified Lay Preachers. If you choose to join us for a Communion service you are under no obligation to take Communion, though, of course, we would love you to join us at our open table – the choice is yours, whatever you are comfortable with.

☕ BACON BUDDIES will take place on Saturday 14th September – usual times, 10.30am – 12 noon. Remember we can also provide a veggie sausage bap or toast and jam/marmalade for those non-meat eaters among us. Why not take time out from your busy schedules and come along for a natter and a cuppa – staying as little or as long as you like. This is a free, non-religious open house event, open to anyone and everyone. (though we are grateful for any donations to help cover costs). Sometimes we all need a bit of “breathing space” and this could be yours once in a while maybe.

We are now entering the last month of our regular mid-week openings for visitors for this season. Our Grade II listed building, which has a wealth of local history engrained within its walls, is open on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons 2.00pm – 4.30pm. The Preacher’s Stable is also open during these times where, as usual, the kettle is on and a warm welcome awaits. So if you’ve visited us before or not, are feeling a little lonely or isolated and would like some company and a chat along with a biscuit and a cuppa, call in – that’s what we are here for. Our aim is to serve you – the community.

Is your small group looking for an afternoon/evening out? Throughout the year we can provide talks about the chapel and light refreshments (by prior arrangement). The venue is suitable for disabled visitors - there is easy access to the chapel and toilet facilities and we also have assisted hearing devices for those with hearing difficulties. Enquiries to either Andrew on 01938 555376 or email Mandy at [email protected].

NATIONAL GARDEN SCHEME: GARDENS OPEN FOR CHARITY in September

Last month, on our wedding anniversary we opened our own small cottage garden for the NGS. We shared our day with about ninety other people who came to visit us. Following months of gardening, plant buying, cake making and borrowing gazebos the day arrived and the weather behaved. From the garden owner’s side it is a really busy and at times stressful as preparations are made. However all this would be for nothing if all the really lovely people who support the garden owners didn’t turn up in all sorts of weather to support this amazing scheme that raises so much for charities. We were able to send £565 to NGS, confident that it will be used to improve the quality of life for many people. Fortunately there are still a few gardens open in September in North Powys for you to go along to and be inspired by.

For gardens further afield the Powys 2019 booklet is still available in tourist information centres, libraries and businesses across the county and for those who are visiting other parts of the country the 2019 Garden Visitors Handbook with over 3,500 gardens across England and Wales is available in bookshops or can be ordered from the National Garden Scheme website www.ngs.or.uk. Some gardens are open by arrangement for small groups during the week and details of these can be found in the NGS Powys leaflets or on the NGS website.

Editor’s Postscript

The closing date for the October newsletter is Wednesday 18th September and it will be published on Friday 27th September. Please continue to send in your old photographs, or any of recent personal or club achievements, or events, either suitable for the front cover, or an article for inside the Newsletter. We have some very talented people in and around Berriew – let us give them some recognition for what they have achieved.

We couldn’t have had better weather for Berriew Show this year and everyone had a good time with plenty to do and lots going on to watch. Unfortunately time was a bit tight to our print schedule, but we were able to get two photographs from the day on to the front cover of this Newsletter. Hopefully we will have fuller coverage of this year’s show, including an article, competition results and more photos in the October issue.

Don’t forget you can advertise items for sale in the Newsletter for £1 per item.

Please note – all articles and correspondence left in the Newsletter Post Box must include a name and address and/or telephone number. Anonymous items will not be published.
