HIGH HOLY DAYS 19 One note about transliteration. I understand there are members of our shul who are not COMMUNITY NEWS 25 yet fully comfortable reading the Hebrew text. (Rabbi Kelley will be teaching a CONTRIBUTIONS 26 Hebrew Class in March.) Still, your clergy recognize transliteration is an important FUND DESIGNATION 27 tool to enable greater participation. While there is a fair amount of transliteration in Siddur Lev Shalem, we will also be purchasing a number of copies of Siddur Eit *throughout bulletin Ratzon, a fully transliterated siddur. We will create a pagination guide so you can stay in sync with the service. We wish to thank the Frank C. and Miriam Loveman Charitable Foundation, Inc. for their generous donation in support of the purchase of many of these siddurim. In addition, an anonymous donor has made a donation to fulfill purchasing the quantity of books that we require. We have a number of prayer books that will be available for dedication and re-dedication in honor or in memory of a loved one. Should you wish to do so, please contact Nakia at [email protected] (see page 23 for details). Martyrology 2016 A Beth Am Tradition for Thirty Years Wednesday, October 12 at 2:00 pm Beth Am’s Martyrology Service, led by Rheda Becker, has been a special part of Yom Kippur day for our congregation. This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of Rheda’s enriching our High Holy Day services, where we hear about and remember martyrs from different periods of Jewish history. On Yom Kippur afternoon we will remember Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor, author and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who died in July. His words, “For the dead and the living, we must bear witness,” were the inspiration for our Martyrology service. We will speak of his life, his books, his teachings, and his special relationship with Beth Am’s founder and Rebbe, Dr. Louis L. Kaplan.

The Martyrology Service will begin at 2:00 p.m. followed by the Open Forum
