What are the goals?  To introduce the and Israeli culture in an informal, engaging and comfortable learning environment  To raise students’ interests in learning the Hebrew language in context of the Israeli culture  To equip students with survival conversational skills and basic cultural knowledge of Israel

What are the requirements/policies?  NO background knowledge is necessary to participate in the course.  NO homework assignments are given unless students ask for it.  No quizzes and exams

Class meetings  Who: everyone is welcome  How many: 8 sessions  When: Wednesdays 5:00-6:30  Where: CAS 322

How is the classes conducted? Each class will have three components:  Communicative skills  The Hebrew writing system  Cultural knowledge

Themes of sessions:

Session I  Getting acquainted I: I am, You are (F, M), Hi, My name is… Nice to meet you, I am from… Currently I live in…. I am a student/faculty at Boston University, yes, No.  Letters: The print and cursive letters. Basic information about the

Session V  Shopping (for clothes, food…): Where do I buy…? How much this cost? Can I have a discount?, The Israeli currency.  Writing: learning to write First names in Hebrew and a word of a choice  Cultural context: Fashion and Shopping in Israel

Session VI:  Food and Restaurants: Items of some food and popular dishes, polite words (Please, Excuse me, Thank you), May I have please…  Writing: Writing a full sentence of a choice (Such as; Hashem shelee… ve’anee me’…)  Cultural context: food cultures in Israel (Sample of Israeli food)

Session VII  Pop culture in Israel: Film, Music and TV reality shows  Cultural context: screening of one short movie and learning a popular Israeli (ביחד song (Name of song: together Beyachad
