Structure and Meaning in Lamentations Homer Heater, Jr. Professor of Bible Exposition Dallas Theological Seminary, Dallas, Texas Lamentations is perhaps the best example in the Bible of a com bination of divine inspiration and human artistic ability. The depth of pathos as the writer probed the suffering of Zion and his own suf fering is unprecedented. Each chapter is an entity in itself, a com plete poem.1 The most obvious literary device utilized by the poet is the acrostic; that is, poems are built around the letters of the alpha bet. -

The sofit letters sound the same as the normal letters, but are used when they are the last letter in a word. For Bible code purposes. the regular letter and final letter are fully equivalent. In other words, in the code, a nun sofit could appear in the middle of a valid term and the regular letter nun could be at the end of a word. (discussion of numbers on the next page) If the Hebrew letters only go to 400, how can you look for higher number in the Bible code, like the year 1998 (5758)? When you have numbers over 1000, you use the thousands letter as a digit. For example, 1561 would start out with “aleph” which is 1. -

The purchase agreement, in the amount of $8.6M, was unanimously approved by the Monona City Council at the September 8th meeting. Pending approval by the Vatican as required by canon law, if all goes as planned Monona will take ownership of the property in June 2021. “We are very excited to have reached an agreement with St. Norbert Abbey to purchase the San Damiano property. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Monona to significantly increase public access to the lakefront and waters of Lake Monona in addition to increasing our public open space. While Monona enjoys more than four miles of shoreline, over eighty percent of Monona residents would not have lake access were it not for our smaller parks and launches. It will be a tremendous asset for the City,” said Monona Mayor Mary O’Connor. At just under ten acres, San Damiano includes over 1,000 feet of frontage on Lake Monona. Much of the grounds are wooded. The house and property are part of the original farm developed by Allis-Chalmers heir Frank Allis in the 1880’s. The land, as is true of much of the area, was originally inhabited by Native Americans, including ancestors of the Ho- Chunk Nation. -

Certainly, all of Christ is present in the Eucharist, his heart as well as all of his body, all his soul, and all the Divinity of the Word of Life that he is in person. But the Heart of Christ truly seems to be the explanatory sign of all the Eucharist: it is the human symbol of all of God’s Love for his Church, which he has redeemed at the cost of his Blood shed on the Cross of Calvary. And love does not have a reason; or if it does, it is love itself that is its own reason. Love can only be explained by love, which is the fullness of its reason. There is therefore no reason that more fully or more completely explains the Eucharist than the very Love of God, symbolized by the Heart of Christ. -

Psalm 119 & the Hebrew Aleph Bet - Part 14 The fourteenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet is called “Nun” (pronounced “noon”) and has the sound of “N” as in “now”. It has the numeric value of 50, the number of the Jubilee. There are two ways to write a Nun. A Nun appearing at the end of a word (sofit) looks like a Vav, but is longer, extending below the baseline. A regular Nun looks much like the Kaph, but is half its width. The Nun stands for FISH. In modern Hebrew, the letter Nun can appear in three forms: Writing the Letter: Nun – The Nun is half as wide as the Kaph Nun: Letter of Faithfulness Nun represents both faithfulness and the reward for faithfulness. Moses is seen as the iconic humble servant of Yahweh. The word “Nun” itself is spelled Nun-Vav-(final) Nun and looks as follows: The one who is humble before God will stand upright in the final Day. In the olam hazeh (present life), this means that the tzaddik (righteous man) will simultaneously affirm: “I am nothing but dust.” Humble yourself in the sight of Yahweh, and He shall lift you up (James 4:10). Nun Study Page 1 Spiritual Meaning of the Nun Nun = 50 and means “FISH” of Yahweh or “The SAVED”. Our Messiah could be called “The Chief FISHERMAN.” He told His disciples that He would make them “FISHERS of men”, (Mark 1:17). Like a FLOURISHING, darting school of FISH that continues to propagate, our Saviour’s Love causes us to multiply and grow in numbers as we share Him with others. -

702 Book Reviews and it is disheartening that the Institutum Historicum Societatis Iesu cannot ensure for its readers (and its authors) a higher standard of comprehensibil- ity in an English-language publication. German is the original language of the work (in the form of a habilitation thesis) and a perfectly respectable interna- tional academic language. Sobiech should have left Jesuit Prison Ministry in it. All of this adds up to a study that is solidly researched and encyclopedically helpful, but also frustratingly hard to read. Scholars will most profitably turn to it as an overview of particular topics and a finder’s guide for source material related to their own research. The best future work on early modern carceral pastoral care, the life of Friedrich Spee, and his Cautio criminalis will undoubt- edly be built on foundations Sobiech lays here. Spee deserves a study on a par with Machielsen’s on Delrio; thanks to Sobiech, we are one step closer. David J. Collins, S.J. BOOK REVIEWS THEOLOGY AND EVOLUTION. By various writers. Edited by E. C. Mes senger. Westminster, Md.: Newman, 1952. Pp. vi + 337. $4.50. The recently deceased editor-author has called this volume a sequel to his earlier Evolution and Theology (London, 1931; N. Y., 1932). Part I (pp. 1-216) is especially deserving of this designation. Entitled "Essays on Evo lution," it collects fourteen critical reviews or commentaries written by various theologians soon after the appearance of the 1931 volume. To many of these essays is added, in full, the subsequent published exchange between author and critic. The discussion is frequently closed with a summary com ment by Dr. Messenger in his present role of editor. Critics who figure in Part I include P. G. M. Rhodes, R. W. Meagher, B. C. Butler, O.S.B., P. J. Flood, J. O. Morgan, Michael Browne, W. H. McClellan, S J., W. J. McGarry, S J., E. F. Sutclifïe, S J., Al. Janssens, J. Bittremieux, A. Brisbois, S.J., J. Gross, and Père Lagrange, O.P. All con cede the significance of Evolution and Theology as the first full-length treat ment of the subject from the theological and scriptural viewpoint, but not all admit the treatment to have been fair. Judgments of "inconsistency" and "special pleading" occur more than a few times. Aside from disagreements with his interpretations of the pertinent writ ings of Gregory of Nyssa and Augustine, and with his understanding of St. Thomas' treatment of the form in Adam's body, the criticism most gen erally leveled at Dr. -

Psalm 119 & the Hebrew Aleph
Psalm 119 & the Hebrew Aleph Bet - Part 7 The seventh letter of the Hebrew alphabet is called "Zayin", (pronounced "ZAH-yeen”). It has the same sound as “z” says in “zebra”. In modern Hebrew, the Zayin can appear in the following three forms: Write the manual print version (or "block" version) of Zayin as follows: MANUAL PRINT VERSION Note that the first stroke slightly descends from the left to right. Writing the Letter: Zayin Practice making the Zayin here: Zayin, the seventh letter of the Hebrew alphabet, concludes the first series of letters, portraying the story of the Gospel. Considering this, let’s review briefly what we’ve found in the first letters: Aleph – represents the ONE, Almighty, invisible God, our FATHER, Who… Beit – “Housed” Himself in human flesh and Scripture, Tabernacling among us… Gimmel – Yah’s plea to mankind goes forth from beit, carried by the final Elijahs… Dalet – who “knock” on the heart-door of the lost, inviting them to sup with Yah… Hey – Those who open their doors (dalet) to the Truth, receive Yah’s Spirit (hey)… – Anyone who has been filled with the Spirit and imputed with Messiah’s Vav Righteousness, becomes a true man, re-connected to Heaven… Having received the Spiritual Gifts and Messages of these previous six letters, the new man is ready for effective SPIRITUAL WARFARE. Zayin means “weapon” and its form represents the SWORD of the SPIRIT. Zayin Study Page 1 Spiritual Meaning of the Zayin Zayin = 7 and is formed by crowning a vav. It represents a sword. The gematria of the word Zayin is 67, which is the same value for (binah), meaning “understanding”.
