Worship—Third Edition What’s the Difference?

Whether in the office or on the road, when it comes to hymnals, we at GIA are most often asked, “What’s the difference?” This packet was cre- ated in response to that very question! We hope this information helps you to find just which GIA hymnal is the best fit for your parish. This packet contains a description of basic differences between GIA hymnals as well as a description of what is common among them. We’ve also included a complete listing of all , , and service music, and in which hymnal each may be found. Of course, if there is something we’ve overlooked, or you have any other questions, you can always give us a call or email us. We’re always happy to help! Happy hymnal shopping!

In preparation for our newest hymnal, GIA conducted a survey of Gather Comprehensive users. The GIA hymnal committee studied the results of this survey of carefully, mixing suggestions with their own 100 years of combined experience as pastoral musicians, and carefully chose the contents of Gather Comprehensive—Second Edition. GIA’s experienced staff then engraved, edited, and designed the hymnal. While the original Gather Comprehensive is more of a songbook with some ritual music, this Second Edition is a complete hymnal and service in the fullest sense of the term. It is truly a “comprehensive” hymnal offering the songs, hymns, psalmody, and service music so well loved in today’s parishes, along with the very best in new liturgical music! We hope you enjoy using Gather Comprehensive—Second Edition as much as we loved creating it. • 576 hymns and songs • 853 musical and liturgical items • Plus musical settings of the entire 3-year cycle of Lectionary psalms by Michel Guimont for Sundays and solemnities • Morning and evening prayer • More music for the rites than the original Gather Comprehensive, including music for RCIA, baptism of children, reconcilia- tion, funeral rites, etc. • Over 200 individual pieces of service music for the Eucharist • 10 complete settings, including 5 new settings never before available in a GIA hymnal • Available with or without Sunday • Complete compact disc recording for reference and listening • It’s affordable—the same low price as the original Gather Comprehensive for both pew editions RitualSong RitualSong combines the best of Worship and Gather as well as material from additional sources into one glorious hymnal! Order both hymnals for your parish and receive $1.00 off the price of Gather—Second Edition. Gather second edition

• Nearly twice as many selections as the original Gather • Music by the most widely sung contemporary composers of our day • Music from the world church • Eight convenient indexes for careful liturgy planning

The perfect companion for Worship—Third Edition, Gather—Second Edition contains music written in a “folk” or contemporary style that is intended to be accompanied on the piano or guitar. Catholic Community Hymnal • Half the size of RitualSong or Gather Comprehensive • Inexpensive—the absolute best bargain in worship aids! • Includes Sunday readings from the revised Lectionary—now with LARGER type • Designed for the mainstream parish • Contains all the songs and mass parts Catholics love to sing • A beautiful, worthy book • All the “standards” in a hardbound, perma- nent format • It makes “cents”!

While this hymnal is smaller, containing just over 400 total selections, Catholic Community Hymnal is very complete. The contents were chosen with great care, resulting in a book filled with the mostly widely sung selections in today’s parishes. In the GIA tradition, the music of other publishers is happily represented along- side GIA favorites. Not only is it compact; this hymnal is also less expensive. If your parish has never owned a hardbound worship aid, this book is for you! Save your parish thousands of dollars for years to come!

COMPREHENSIVE 1994 edition
