Uniforms of the Colorado Springs This uniform is used for special events including promotional ceremonies and fire department functions.

CLASS A UNIFORM The Class B Uniform is worn by at official functions/meetings or when interacting with the public.

CLASS B UNIFORM The Class C Uniform is worn daily by firefighters at the stations when they are not engaged in activities requiring specialized gear.

CLASS C UNIFORM This uniform is used by CSFD technical rescue personnel for confined space rescue. Equipped with a small air cylinder and helmet, firefighters are able to enter small restricted areas with their own air supply.

CONFINED SPACE CSFD has teams of high angle rescue trained personnel. These firefighters are equipped with the tools needed to perform any high angle rescues, from the side of a mountain to a trail rescue.

HIGH ANGLE RESCUE These firefighters are equipped with a life vest, whistle, knife and throw rope. They are able to deploy a rescue rope to any water situation. The rope is used to pull victims to shore safely.

SWIFT WATER RESCUE This suit is used by CSFD’s technical rescue team for dive rescue. This is a wetsuit which keeps firefighters safe from the elements and allows them to reach depths of over 100 feet.

DIVE RESCUE This drysuit is used to protect firefighters from freezing elements. It also serves as a flotation device and insulator to keep firefighters dry, warm and afloat when rescuing victims that have fallen through ice.

ICE RESCUE CSFD has a motorcycle program located at Station 13. Stations 13 and 5 both have the capabilities to deploy motorcycles to aid in rescue operations for hurt or stranded hikers. Motorcycles allow for fast access to trail systems all over the .

MOTORCYCLE PROGRAM This uniform is used to help protect firefighters while also allowing them free movement and less restricted range of motion.

STRUCTURE COLLAPSE The TEMS is a specialty unit that deploys when SWAT teams from CSPD and EPSO are called for duty. TEMS personnel are trained to render medical aid for SWAT team members and are actively trained on SWAT tactics.

TACTICAL MEDICAL SQUAD This uniform is used for fighting wildland fires or forest fires. The uniform is equipped with fire resistant clothing, helmet, and leather gloves and includes a to help protect firefighters from extreme heat.

WILDLAND Level A suits are total HazMat containment suits, giving protection from all forms of chemicals: solids, liquids, and gasses/vapors. They are sometimes called Chemical Vapor Suits and provide the HIGHEST level of protection for breathing, skin and eyes. Level A suits are used when unknown substances are thought to be present and intervention is required.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESPONSE - LEVEL A Level B HazMat suits are not airtight and provide protection against solids and liquids (splashing), but not vapors or gasses. This gear allows specially trained firefighters to deal with substances which may be toxic, caustic, etc.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESPONSE - LEVEL B This suit is used when operating near fires that produce a high amount of BTUs (heat production) as in flammable liquid fires.

PROXIMITY SUIT Firefighters responding to medical calls generally wear a T-shirt, uniform pants, medical gloves and eye protection

MEDICAL CALLS This is personal protective gear used for structural fire fighting and generally includes a self contained breathing apparatus supplying 45 mins of air. This ensemble can cover firefighters from head to toe with no skin exposed.

STRUCTURE FIREFIGHTING GEAR CSFD has a special event team that goes to city events to provide medical standby.

SPECIAL EVENTS Fitness is an important aspect of being a . This uniform is used for working out and is also worn underneath firefighting gear while training.

PHYSICAL TRAINING GEAR Division of the Fire employees wear a daily work uniform consisting of a polo shirt and utility pants. CSFD chaplains also wear this uniform on occasion.

DIVISION OF THE The Community and Public Health Program is a mobile integrated health program that involves direct CSFD interaction with members of the Colorado Springs community before they need to call 9-1-1.

CPH PROGRAM The CAPS program is a corps of volunteers contributing time to support public safety services in our community. They fill a number of important roles in CSFD.
