UNIQUE CLINKER BRICKS FROM EAST FRIESLAND

NATURALLY FIRED COLOURS – INDIVIDUALLY SELECTED MOIN,” MOIN! WHAT MAKES EAST FRIESLAND UNIQUE

Are you looking for a motif that sets East Friesland apart? That shows more than the wide East Friesian sky? A place that combines our region’s characteristics as if under a magnifying glass? Would you like to hear the East Friesian heart beating? Then our brickworks in the village of Neuschoo, home to 1,200 residents, is certain- ly not the worst place to get to know and understand East Friesland. This is be- cause we are proud to call ourselves East Friesians. We are Klinkerwerke GmbH, or in short: Wittmunder Klinker. Or even more succinctly: WITTMUNDER. IT’S ALWAYS TEA TIME

We East Friesians have established many customs and traditions, including our passion for tea. We love our tea time so much that we don’t want to miss them when conversing with customers, either. Mornings, afternoons or evenings – with us, it’s always tea time. Time simply has to be found for one of life’s great pleasures. QUALITY IN OUR DNA

We also take time to produce our clinker bricks. Enduring value, a passion for detail, quality and tradition are burnt into our East Friesian DNA. Producing one-off clinker bricks, individually fired and selected by hand, is our passion. And sometimes, this quite simply means sitting back and drinking tea. East Friesian tea, incidentally, has been included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Our clinker bricks are also on a list: the list of the best handcrafted bricks in – that’s certainly worth raising a nice cup of tea to!

THE WITTMUNDER CLINKER BRICK: THE CLASSIC PRODUCT FROM EAST FRIESLAND

It all began over 100 years ago, when Klinkerwerke Wittmund first manufactured a product which has since become a byword for enduring value, tradition and quality: its clinker brick for construction and paving. An East Friesian classic, born in the scorching heat of the kiln. Each brick one of a kind. Each coloration unique in its way. It’s a product that remains the same today. Because the production process is based on a tradition cherished by generations of master kiln operators. Because Wittmunder Klinker is one of the last brickmakers working without chemical addi- tives or engobes. Because every colour is produced solely by the high temperature of the firing. Our customers receive “Made in Germany”-quality, hand-selected clinker bricks. TRADITION AND INNOVATION – IT’S ALL IN THE MIXTURE

The raw material for Wittmunder clinker bricks, namely clay, is extracted locally. It is then used at our brickworks in Neuschoo to produce clinker brinks which marry tradition and innovation. A great deal of experience is needed to achieve the precise temperature required to produce the clinker. A temperature of 1200 degrees achieves an extremely hard firing, ensuring the minimum water absorption in our brickworks’ tunnel kiln and high bulk densities, with the result that our clinker bricks look great and last an eternity. We are proud to manufacture an authentic product that has close ties with the region yet – or even perhaps Bricks with personality: because of these links – is coveted the clay is extracted locally throughout Germany and Europe. and the clinker is fired hard in A product for creative planners and the kiln and then hand- ambitious clients keen to design selected in the brickworks architecture that really stands apart. There is a real appreciation for solid craftsmanship at present. In our brickworks, we’ve never worked in any other way. For us, it goes without saying that we select by hand
