WELTENBURGER KLOSTER KELLERBIER

Weltenburger Kloster Kellerbier is a type of German brewed according to the German Purity Act from 1516. Welternburger Klosterbrauerei was founded in the year 1050 and is the oldest monastery in the world. The location of the monastery brewery is along the German river Danube, near the beautiful city of Regensburg in the state of Bavaria. Today there are 14 monks who live and brew in the monastery. Profits from the brewery go, in addition to the operation of the monastery, to flood protection of the impressive buildings.

Kellerbier is a version of German originating from Franconia, Bavaria and dates to the beginning of lagering in the latter half of the Middle Ages. with a lack of refrigeration technology at the time, the brewers brewed their during the cold months of the year and then stored them in caves. These caves served as natural cellars that allowed the beer to stay at a stable, cool temperature for long-term maturation. Kellerbier translate to "cellar beer" which is an obvious reference to the cooler temperatures of history about how the beer was brewed and conditioned.

Weltenburger Kloster Kellerbier contains a particularly large number of vitamins and minerals since the beer is natural (unfiltered) like the original cellar beer. The beer has a dark yellow color with a nice white foam. Delicate aroma of and bread. A mild and soft taste of malt and caramel with a little hint of hop bitterness at the end.
