In this Commonwealth Classroom program, viewers will learn about beers enjoyed by the 17th-century English colonists who arrived in this region, the growth of lagers in the 19th century, prohibition and its impact on brewing, and the craft beer revolution. “We’re very proud to join up with this team of experts for this series, with proceeds going to Ardent Helps RVA, which provides emergency grants for food service workers in crisis,” said Michael Plumb, VMHC Vice President for Guest Engagement. “We think it is vitally important to give back in this pandemic.” Every Thursday in May, local brewers whose libations reflect specific periods in Richmond’s beer history will provide tasting notes and information about their beers. Participants are encouraged to purchase beers from local retailers prior to the class so that can raise a social-distanced pint together. The cost per class is $6 for members of the VMHC or Richmond Beeristoric and $8 per class for non-members. Participants who register for all four classes in this series receive a discount: $20 for all four classes for members of the VMHC or Richmond Beeristoric and $25 for non-members. -

On Tap Lancaster Liederkranz Beer News February 6, 2019
On Tap Lancaster Liederkranz Beer News February 6, 2019 German Pils fans have some interesting taps to pick from. Einbecker Brauherren Pils is a perfect composition of the best hops and selected fine malts bringing the classic bitter character of Einbecker Premium Pils to mature perfection. With a bigger malt bill than its little brother (11.4% vs 11.2% O/G), the Brauherren is slightly stronger at 4.9% vs 4.8% ABV. This classic from the “Brewing Lords” of Einbeck is a delightful, traditional pils. Crisp and refreshing, it’s the perfect accompaniment to lunch or dinner. Brewhouse Grill owners Norm Fromm and Larry Dolan opened Ever Grain Brewing Company in 2016 in the former Sun Motors facility off Carlisle Pike in Camp Hill. Since then, they have developed a fine reputation in the central PA beer scene. Brewer Bruce Tanner was recently joined by Austrian Manuela Rustler, a Doeman’s brewing school graduate who had stints at Hofstetten and Paulaner as well as Boxing Cat Brewery in Shanghai. It is anticipated that she will focus more on sour beers as well as provide input to the classical lagers which Ever Grain does particularly well. The Ever Grain Camp Pils is a 5.0% ABV German style Pilsner. Well balanced, it’s slightly hoppy with a dry malt finish. Brewing tradition in Donaueschingen reaches back to 1283 when King Rudolf I von Habsburg granted lands and brewing rights to Count Heinrich I von Fürstenberg. The “modern” history of the Furstenberg Brewery began in 1739 and production really picked up in 1884 when master brewer Josef Munz took over. -
Chile: Food Processing Ingredients
THIS REPORT CONTAINS ASSESSMENTS OF COMMODITY AND TRADE ISSUES MADE BY USDA STAFF AND NOT NECESSARILY STATEMENTS OF OFFICIAL U.S. GOVERNMENT POLICY Required Report - public distribution Date: 12/28/2017 GAIN Report Number: CI1736 Chile Food Processing Ingredients New Opportunities for U.S. High Value Added Products and Ingredients Approved By: Marcela Rondon, Agricultural Attaché Prepared By: Sergio Gonzalez, Agricultural Specialist Report Highlights: Chilean food industry is the main productive activity in the country, with annual sales of $34 billion. Healthy foods, gourmet products, prepared foods and ready-made meals are products that show huge potential for growth in the Chilean market. New ingredients are being used in the production of healthier products especially those adapted to consumers with food intolerances, such as lactose and gluten free products. Consumers have an increasing concern for health issues while the food processing industry is trying to adapt to the nutritional labeling law, higher labor costs, and sophisticated customers, all of which present challenges, but also opportunities for U.S. high value added foods and ingredients such as natural additives, preservatives, thickeners and sweeteners. 1 Post: Santiago Executive Summary: Chile, with a population of 17.6 million in 2017 is still the top performing country in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean. Despite a slowdown in economic growth between 2011 and 2016 (from an annual real GDP growth of 5.8% in 2011 to 1.6% in 2016), Chile is expected to return to a 3% growth in 2018. Between 2010 and 2016, GDP per capita in current prices grew by 7.2% and reached $13,793 in 2016 (World Bank). -
