Media Alert Emily Lucier, Manager of PR & Marketing May 6, 2020 [email protected], 804.342.9665 Virginia Museum of History & Culture Partners with VCU, Local Brewers and Richmond Beeristoric to Launch New Thirsty Thursdays Series on May 7 Richmond, VA – The Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) is teaming up with experts from Richmond Beeristoric, local brewers and the VCU Office of Continuing and Professional Education for Thirsty Thursdays. In this Commonwealth Classroom program, viewers will learn about beers enjoyed by the 17th-century English colonists who arrived in this region, the growth of lagers in the 19th century, prohibition and its impact on brewing, and the craft beer revolution. “We’re very proud to join up with this team of experts for this series, with proceeds going to Ardent Helps RVA, which provides emergency grants for food service workers in crisis,” said Michael Plumb, VMHC Vice President for Guest Engagement. “We think it is vitally important to give back in this pandemic.” Every Thursday in May, local brewers whose libations reflect specific periods in Richmond’s beer history will provide tasting notes and information about their beers. Participants are encouraged to purchase beers from local retailers prior to the class so that can raise a social-distanced pint together. The cost per class is $6 for members of the VMHC or Richmond Beeristoric and $8 per class for non-members. Participants who register for all four classes in this series receive a discount: $20 for all four classes for members of the VMHC or Richmond Beeristoric and $25 for non-members.

  • On Tap Lancaster Liederkranz Beer News February 6, 2019
On Tap Lancaster Liederkranz Beer News February 6, 2019 German Pils fans have some interesting taps to pick from. Einbecker Brauherren Pils is a perfect composition of the best hops and selected fine malts bringing the classic bitter character of Einbecker Premium Pils to mature perfection. With a bigger malt bill than its little brother (11.4% vs 11.2% O/G), the Brauherren is slightly stronger at 4.9% vs 4.8% ABV. This classic from the “Brewing Lords” of Einbeck is a delightful, traditional pils. Crisp and refreshing, it’s the perfect accompaniment to lunch or dinner. Brewhouse Grill owners Norm Fromm and Larry Dolan opened Ever Grain Brewing Company in 2016 in the former Sun Motors facility off Carlisle Pike in Camp Hill. Since then, they have developed a fine reputation in the central PA beer scene. Brewer Bruce Tanner was recently joined by Austrian Manuela Rustler, a Doeman’s brewing school graduate who had stints at Hofstetten and Paulaner as well as Boxing Cat Brewery in Shanghai. It is anticipated that she will focus more on sour beers as well as provide input to the classical lagers which Ever Grain does particularly well. The Ever Grain Camp Pils is a 5.0% ABV German style Pilsner. Well balanced, it’s slightly hoppy with a dry malt finish. Brewing tradition in Donaueschingen reaches back to 1283 when King Rudolf I von Habsburg granted lands and brewing rights to Count Heinrich I von Fürstenberg. The “modern” history of the Furstenberg Brewery began in 1739 and production really picked up in 1884 when master brewer Josef Munz took over.

  • Brewers Association 2014 Beer Style Guidelines March 10, 2014
Brewers Association 2014 Beer Style Guidelines March 10, 2014 Compiled for the Brewers Association by Charlie Papazian, copyright: 1993 through and including 2014. With Style Guideline Committee assistance and review by Paul Gatza, Chris Swersey, and suggestions from Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup judges. Since 1979 the Brewers Association has provided beer style descriptions as a reference for brewers and beer competition organizers. Much of the early work was based on the assistance and contributions of beer journalist Michael Jackson. The task of creating a realistic set of guidelines is always complex. The beer style guidelines developed by the Brewers Association use sources from the commercial brewing industry, beer analyses, and consultations with beer industry experts and knowledgeable beer enthusiasts as resources for information. The Brewers Association' beer style guidelines reflect, as much as possible, historical significance, authenticity or a high profile in the current commercial beer market. Often, the historical significance is not clear, or a new beer in a current market may be only a passing fad, and thus, quickly forgotten. For these reasons, the addition of a style or the modification of an existing one is not undertaken lightly and is the product of research, consultation and consideration of market actualities, and may take place over a period of time. Another factor considered is that current commercial examples do not always fit well into the historical record, and instead represent a modern version of the style. Our decision to include a particular historical beer style takes into consideration the style's brewing traditions and the need to preserve those traditions in today's market.
