Introduction

The Education Policy Institute Annual Report 2019 assesses the state of education in – including the progress made in closing the gap in attainment between disadvantaged pupils and their peers.

Known as the ‘disadvantage gap’, the measure is a leading indicator of how the government is performing on social mobility.

This document contains all geographical data breakdowns from the 2019 Annual Report, set out in the contents below. The disadvantage gap is examined at three education phases: early years (reception year), primary school (Key stage 2) and secondary school (Key stage 4).
