WELCOME TO Hillsbor ough The Town of Hillsborough was established as the Orange County seat in 1754, where the Great Indian Trading Path crossed the scenic Eno River. That was over 250 years ago and Downtown Hillsborough appears very much as it did in the 18th century. Downtown Hillsborough has preserved and restored an impressive collections of historic churches, mills, sites, and landscapes that reflect its important role from the Colonial Period through North Carolina’s textile boom into present day.
Today, the Town of Hillsborough offers many modern amenities, unique attractions, and fun things to do. On any given day you can attend a special event, take a tour, see live music, or browse an art gallery. You can also hike the Riverwalk Greenway or Occoneechee Mountain trails, shop at unique stores, try locally brewed beer or wine, or eat at a specialty restaurant you can’t find anywhere else.
