WELCOME TO Hillsbor ough The Town of Hillsborough was established in 1754 as the Orange County seat, but it was originally home to the Occaneechi, Eno, and Haw tribes. Hillsborough’s location was ideal, as it was where the Great Trading Path crossed the Eno River. Over the years, more and more settlers discovered and built upon this special place. Today, downtown Hillsborough appears very much as it did in the 18th century, with an impressive collection of historic homes, churches, mills, schools, and landscapes that reflect the beautiful architecture of a time long ago, as well as the Town’s important role through history.
Today, Hillsborough gives a glimpse into the past while also offering visitors modern amenities, unique attractions, and fun things to do.
