LINDBACK A WARD The Christian R. and Mary F. Lind back Foundation of Philadel­ phia provides grants to institutions of higher education for scholarship assistance and for the promotion of teaching excellence. SEARS ROEBUCK FOUNDATION A WARD The Sears-Roebuck Foundation "Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award" supports private by recognizing the fundamental importance of the quality of teaching to the value of the education process; it supports faculty in their pursuit of excellence in teaching and leadership in the campus community; it assists institutions in nurturing the academic climate that fosters teaching at its best; and it helps enhance teaching as a profession. Each distinguished teacher selected receives a monetary grant. In addition, the University receives an unrestricted grant each year that is calculated by the Sears-Foundation on the basis of full-time equivalent student enrollment. The award recipient is selected by the president of the University based upon nomina­ tions from the provost, deans, and department and division heads.
