Press Release Eastern Shipbuilding Group Delivers Second FDNY FIREFIGHTER II

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. is pleased to announce that the second fireboat of a two (2) vessel contract for the Department of (FDNY), , New York, the FIREFIGHTER II, has officially been put into service along with the first vessel, the THREE FORTY THREE.

The FIREFIGHTER II, departed our Nelson Street shipyard facility in Panama City, Florida in late November for its delivery voyage to New York. Final training of the crew has been completed and the vessel was commissioned December 7, 2010.

These new vessels will completely modernize the Marine Operations Department of FDNY, with the THREE FORTY THREE replacing the fifty year old JOHN D. McKEAN and the FIREFIGHTER II replacing the seventy year old FIRE FIGHTER. These state-of-the-art 140 foot long, 500 ton are able to pump 50,000 gallons of water per minute, 30,000 gallons more than their predecessors, providing the greatest pumping capacity of any fireboat in the world. The fireboats THREE FORTY THREE and the FIREFIGHTER II were designed by the Vancouver, based naval architectural firm, Robert Allan Ltd. Designed features include the capability of protecting firefighters from Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear agents (CBRN). While performing in any of these hostile environments, the crew will be protected in a pressurized area that will also have its air supply filtered by special charcoal and HEPA filters. Each fireboat is powered by four(4) MTU 12v4000 diesel engines each producing 2,000 hp with a vessel top speed of 18 knots. The pilothouse offers a 360 degree view and each vessel is equipped with a modern command and control center where the FDNY Chief Officers are able to monitor and direct field operations with the aid of remote cameras and a large array of the latest communication equipment.
