NFPA Standard 1001, 2019 Edition

Test Construction Guide

The skills examination will consist of at least 4 stations representing a random sampling of the standard. The practical skills have been broken down into four major categories, of which the Test Control Officer will randomly select the prescribed number of Skill Sheets per category using the matrix below. Seven mandatory and five random Skills Sheets will be selected at a minimum.

Live Fire Testing

Live fire testing shall be conducted in a controlled environment that simulates a real event. Live fire simulations shall incorporate the use of props emitting and heat. Live fire may be tested on a different day or at a different location than the other practical skills. If tested separately, the Test Control Officer shall register the exam with the State ’s Office.
