Web browser is a software that is needed to find, retrieve, view and send information over the internet.

3 FEATURES OF BROWSER

 A Browser handles requests for HTML files, interprets and deals with embedded images, audio and video elements.  A browser keeps the history of the web sites visited.  A browser lets a user to save a collection of pages ,allowing for later retrieval.  Browsers are used to send and receive E-mails.  Browser acts as a platform for applets.

4 FEATURES OF BROWSER • Browser supports multimedia In three ways:  Native Support A browser supports some of the image formats natively.  Plug-ins It is a program that adds functions to the web browser like audio player or a compression utility.  Helper Program These Programs are external applications launched by a web browser to view non native file formats and data types

5 TYPES OF BROWSERS

• Graphical Browsers These browsers allow retrieval of text, images, audio and video. Navigation is done my clicking with a mouse on highlighted words and graphics. • Text Browsers These browsers provide access to the web in text mode only. Navigation is done by highlighting words on the screen with the arrow up and down keys and the pressing the Enter Key. is an example of text browser.

24 Save As… Saves the page you are currently browsing. You can choose to save the whole page (complete with graphics), just the current HTML page, or the page text only.

Send… Opens an composition window using your computer's default email program so you can send a message with a link to the current page.

Close Tab Closes the current tab and selects the rightmost tab. This menu item is visible only if more than one browser tab is currently open. Page Setup…

Displays a Page Setup dialog where you can specify printing settings such as margins, headers and footers, and page orientation. Print… Displays the Print dialog, where you can specify the number of printed copies, etc. Click OK to print the page.

25 Print Preview Displays a preview of how the current document will appear when printed. It reflects the settings in the Page Setup dialog and the page author's intentions. Import and Export… Opens the Import Wizard dialog, which allows you to import options, bookmarks, history, passwords and other data from browsers like , Mozilla or and import the data from other browsers. Work Offline Toggles between online and offline mode. Offline mode allows you to view web pages you've previously visited without being connected to the Internet.

26 27 Edit Cut Cuts the selected text from a text field and stores it in the clipboard. Paste the text elsewhere by using the Paste command. Copy Copies the selected text to the clipboard. Paste the text in a text field by using the Paste command. Paste Pastes text stored in the clipboard into a text field. Select All Selects all text and other items on the page. Find in This Page… Displays the Find Toolbar at the bottom of the browser window. Enter the text you wish to find in the toolbar, and as you type IE will automatically find and select the first occurrence of the entered text on the page. Click Find Next or Find Previous to find the text at other locations in the page, and click Highlight to highlight all occurrences of the text on the page. 28 29 View Toolbars Toggles the visibility of the toolbar, which contains bookmarks to various sites. Status Bar Toggles the visibility of the status bar, located at the bottom of the window. The status bar displays useful information about the page but may not be needed by everyone. Quick Tab Opens another tab in the same window Goto Goto Is used to go backward or forward one page at a time or we can directly goto homepage Stop Stops loading of the current page you're browsing. This is the same as clicking on the Stop button on the toolbar. 30 Refresh Gets the most up-to-date version of the current page. This is the same as clicking the Reload button on the toolbar. Text Size Allows us to set the size of the text in the web page. Encoding Allows you to manually change the on a web page. usually does this automatically. Source Displays the source code for the current document Full Screen Displays the window in full screen. If you have the navigation toolbar hidden, you can always restore the window anyway by pressing F11.
