An Overview of the 50 Most Common Web Scraping Tools
AN OVERVIEW OF THE 50 MOST COMMON WEB SCRAPING TOOLS WEB SCRAPING IS THE PROCESS OF USING BOTS TO EXTRACT CONTENT AND DATA FROM A WEBSITE. UNLIKE SCREEN SCRAPING, WHICH ONLY COPIES PIXELS DISPLAYED ON SCREEN, WEB SCRAPING EXTRACTS UNDERLYING CODE — AND WITH IT, STORED DATA — AND OUTPUTS THAT INFORMATION INTO A DESIGNATED FILE FORMAT. While legitimate uses cases exist for data harvesting, illegal purposes exist as well, including undercutting prices and theft of copyrighted content. Understanding web scraping bots starts with understanding the diverse and assorted array of web scraping tools and existing platforms. Following is a high-level overview of the 50 most common web scraping tools and platforms currently available. RNDr. Irena Holubov´a,Ph.D., department Abstract: Creation of web wrappers (i.e programs that extract data from the web) is a subject of study in the field of web data extraction. Designing a domain- specific language for a web wrapper is a challenging task, because it introduces trade-offs between expressiveness of a wrapper’s language and safety. In addition, little attention has been paid to execution of a wrapper in restricted environment. In this thesis, we present a new wrapping language – Serrano – that has three goals in mind. (1) Ability to run in restricted environment, such as a browser extension, (2) extensibility, to balance the tradeoffs between expressiveness of a command set and safety, and (3) processing capabilities, to eliminate the need for additional programs to clean the extracted data. -
Technical Description of Using Multiple Browsers in Denton
Technical Description of Using Multiple Browsers In Denton ISD By Garrett Chandler The global IT industry, as a whole, is in an interesting transition period. There are a variety of variables that play into why users, both consumers and enterprises alike, must use a number of different web browsers on their computer. In order to understand why we are experiencing these issues today, it’s important to look at three things: where the IT industry once was and where it’s going, the current trends of web developers, and finally, how Denton ISD utilizes certain services such as Eduphoria, and TAC. Please bear with me as things may get slightly technical. HTML 5 is code for designing web pages on the Internet. HTML5 has grown tremendously over the past few years and is quickly becoming the code of choice for web developers. Eventually, trends suggest, that HTML 5 will be the standard code across the web, as designated by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). However, this adoption is entirely up to the web developers and how it meets their requirements in the services they provide, their business goals, and marketing strategies. HTML 4.01 is the current standard by W3C, which has been the standard since 1999. Aside from HTML, as the web has grown from its adolescence, it has learned new languages in the form of other types of code, especially as technology as a whole progresses. For years Internet Explorer was the most common web browser on PC’s as Microsoft dominated the enterprise market. However, with the imminent demise of Microsoft Windows XP on the horizon, other companies like Google and Mozilla have seized the opportunity to own the web. -

Cascading Style Sheet Styling Issues for Punjabi Language
Cascading Style Sheet Styling Issues for Punjabi Language Thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of degree of Master of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering Submitted By Swati Mittal (Roll No. 800932024) Under the supervision of: Mr. Parteek Bhatia Assistant Professor (CSED) COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT THAPAR UNIVERSITY PATIALA – 147004 June 2011 i ii Abstract Most of the websites today are multilingual. The information provided on the Internet is in local language. The fonts used for local languages are not compatible with the browsers. The websites make use of Cascading Style Sheets for styling. The effect of using CSS styles on local languages is not as good as it is for English language. There are many CSS styling issues in display of local languages. W3C India has identified many CSS styling issues for Indic Scripts. In the work presented, CSS styling issues like, first-letter styling, underlining, over lining, line- through of characters, hyperlink display while mouse over, horizontal spacing, etc., have been discussed for Punjabi language. These issues have been analyzed on six different browsers, namely, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator, Safari, Internet Explorer and Opera. A comparative study of all these browsers has been carried out based on the CSS styling issues. A number of Punjabi websites have been analyzed to find the problems in display. The websites use Unicode and non-Unicode Gurmukhi fonts for Punjabi content. There are problems in display of non-Unicode fonts. A web application has been created that allows an end-user to apply different CSS styles on the Punjabi text. -
