Region Västra Götaland is the public transport authority. Västtrafik, the county transport company, gets public transport to work.

What is the 65+ card?
All residents of Gothenburg, 65 years and older can apply.
Free trips: Mon – Fri: 8.30 am – 3 pm and 6 pm – 12 pm Weekends, days before holidays and holidays are free all day.
How do we finance it? Additional purchase from City of Gothenburg. 1 995 SEK per card and year. 100 million SEK in budget 2016 (aprox € 10 million).
4 65+ card lauched in 2008
Main political reasons when introduced: ¤ A benifit that the seniors deserved. ¤ Better opportunities to meet family and friends. ¤ Giving people an alternative to the car.
Big success – within the first week 34 000 seniors had registered for the card.
Pioneers – among the very first in west Sweden. Now 28 municipalities (of 49) have senior citizen cards and 9 more are planning for it.
2014 – 33 million trips were made with a 65+ card.

What´s the benefits?
For the invidual: • Health benefits of increased mobility, social benefits with increased access to friends, family and activities.

The 65+ card will give free entrance to public bath houses in Gothenburg from 2016
