Croatia and Their Team! Croatia Is a Great Handball Nation and We Look Forward to Hosting Both Players and Fans in Malmö

Malmö stad Rekreation and Sport Administration Press Date 9 July 2010 Men’s Handball World Championship 2011, from group meddelande playoff to final, in Malmö. This Championship is the largest event in Scandinavia 2011, with 24 different nations represented. The Championship takes place between 13 – 30 January 2011 and ends with the final, which will also be played at the Malmö Arena. Malmö would like to give a warm welcome to Croatia and their team! Croatia is a great handball nation and we look forward to hosting both players and fans in Malmö. The Danish team will play their first round in Malmö. Since Malmö is situated close to Denmark we hope that our Danish neighbours will feel right at home in Malmö and at the Malmö Arena. Sweden starts playing in Gothenburg. If everything goes well we hope to see Sweden continue the tournament and come and play in Malmö. One of the aims of the Championship is to create a huge party that extends far beyond the arenas. Malmö will function as the centre of the celebration and the city will vibrate from the atmosphere that comes with a tournament of this size. - We are thrilled to be hosting so many matches in Malmö, including one of the semi finals and the final. We will see a great deal of handball played at its best, starting right at the beginning with Croatia and of course Denmark, says a very pleased Per-Olov Bergqvist, Assistant Director, Recreation and Sport Administration. A FanZone will be organised in the centre of Malmö, only 6 min by train away from the Malmö Arena, in order to help create a fantastic experience surrounding the World Championships. At the FanZone you will be able to watch every game on a big screen, eat, drink and of course joins others in pleasant surroundings. - We have already started preparing for the handball experience at Fan Zone, Slagthuset in Malmö. With Denmark and Croatia playing at the Malmö Arena and with hopes for success for the Swedish team, we can’t expect anything other than a wonderful party, before and after the games, says Petter Rörby, Project manager, Recreation and Sport Administration. Preliminary overview of city measures to mitigate the socio- economic impact of COVID-19 Policy note 4 May 2020 Cities are on the frontline of managing the COVID-19 crisis. They are dealing with the immediate consequences of the crisis. Many cities have adapted their services in quick, effective, and innovative ways to respond to the emergency. As we are moving past the emergency stage of this crisis, many cities are pro-actively setting out measures to mitigate the social and economic effects of the COVID-19 crisis on people, jobs, businesses, the local economy and equality and inclusion in cities. EUROCITIES has compiled a preliminary overview of policy responses that cities have recently adopted to mitigate the socio-economic effects of the COVID-19 crisis in the short, medium and long-term. This document builds on an existing collection of economic measures on subnational level assembled in the Economic Bulletin N°3 of the European Committee of the Regions. It also brings together examples from about 50 cities that were published on cities’ websites, and on our EUROCITIES web platform www.covidnews.eurocities.eu. Those of us who were fortunate enough to be involved in the production during Latvian Television’s first edition in Riga hold many fond memories of launching Eurovision’s newest competition format. The show was spectacular, the choirs stunning and the music sublime. But what remains most strongly in my memory is the unique atmosphere of the backstage area around the show. I recall a festive atmosphere, almost a party, as nine choirs traded songs across the dressing room walls. And indeed, this is a festival – a festival of the beauty and diversity of choral singing in Europe, and of what can be achieved by joining our voices. So it seems true – singing is good for the soul. Thanks to those of you who have made the journey to attend Eurovision Choir 2019 in Gothenburg. Stockholm and Eurovison Song Contest Two Eurovision entries in 2015 were written during Stockholm Songwriting Camp Macedonia’s ”Autumn Leave’s” was composed and written by Joacim Persson. Azerbaijan’s ”Hour of the Wolf” was written by Nicolas Rebscher, Nicklas Lif and Lina Hansson during the first ever Stockholm Songwriting Camp at Pop House hotel in Stockholm, january 2015. In addition several pop songs met the public ears during the year, including Conchita Wurst’s ”Firestorm” written and produced by Joacim Persson, Sebastian Arman and Aleena Gibson (who was an additional writer not at the camp), and the song ‘Step to my beat’ which the ‘pop dynamo’ Ronika co-wrote at the camp with Nicolas Rebscher. It was also featured in The Guardians pop playlist. Stockholm Songwriting Camp is an initiative that brings together writers and producers from around the world. It is a hub that values the creativity of others and wants to provide a neutral platform for embracing creativity across the songwriting world. What makes the concept different from a lot of camps is the fact that the organizers do not claim any publishing rights, all property is the writers – it is simply the meeting place. The concept was founded by Niclas Molinder owner of Auddly, based in Stockholm.
