As Seen From This Side By Jerry “Gray Wolf” Phillips Wauchula

Johnny, of several years gone by, was just a plain face with a voice afflicted with a stutter. By some miracle of God, he mar- ried the prettiest girl in Miller County, Ga. I had the honor of having Christmas supper at a church here in County, Ala. and I was reminded of the blessings of Johnny. I was first to arrive at church, and I met all the old friends from years back. None of us would win a beauty contest, including me and an old friend, David. After several minutes, the dining hall was filled to capacity, all homely (back home it’s called ugly). Suddenly, this one lady turned, looking back across the hall, and I’d almost swear the hall lit up like daylight, at 9 p.m. The most beau- tiful lady stood like an angel under a spotlight. David’s wife had just placed a tray of food on the table be- hind her and turned to face us. I had forgotten what the young teenage girl looked like 10 years ago. David, like Johnny, had also married the prettiest girl in his county. I witnessed this teenage flower reach her full bloom. –––––– December 2016, I was in Tennessee. These few cool spells in south Alabama reminded me of why I’m considering moving back to central Florida. As a matter of fact (this is my original opinion, not neces- sarily yours), from Lake City to Arcadia is all that is left that can be called Florida, and even this is forcing Spanish down the throats of English-speaking natives. The northern part of Florida is part of lower Alabama, and the southern part is whatever you want to call it, other than Florida. Spain traded this to the United States just to be shed of it. You are right. I don’t have any love for anything south of Okeechobee except the lake and the Conch Republic. I wish they would hurry and secede from the U.S. so I can move back to the Keys. Walt Disney came down and bought that chunk of Orange County under false pretenses and ruined the Atlantic coast but black rocks don’t make a real beach. To find a real one, you will have to go to Panama City, over to Gulf shores to find a white beach. –––––– I saw two signs recently that I would like to pass on. “I may not be there yet but I am closer today than I was yesterday” and “The start is what stops most people.” A flower has no choice of where it gets planted, but it still gives forth all of its beauty regardless of the other scenery. This too, should be the story of a Christian’s life. Let your light shine its brightest wherever God plants your feet. –––––– If God be willing, I shall try to be at the Florida Flywheeler shows on Jan. 17-20 and Feb. 21-24, 2018, and just as soon as I can find a place, we (my dogs and I) will move back to Wauchula. My opinion of speedos and skinny britches keep getting re- inforced. Any size over Size 6 should be a charge of indecent exposure. You would not be caught wearing your see-though bed jacket out in public. Please don’t pollute the view our visitors have of Florida by packing too much into too little. We see you going the other way. –––––– I paid $4.96, plus tax, for this calendar. It proclaims to be fact that women speak 20,000 words a day, men only 7,000. I won’t challenge it. This reminds me of something I heard. When you see three women talking, they all know that the first one to leave will be what the others talk about. Another version is a preacher said he always found sorrow wondering who just left the two he sees talking. I don’t know if I can find truth in this, but I get a chuckle out of it, and if you will be truthful, you do too. This is legal. One pound of peanut butter is allowed up to 150 bug fragments and five rodent hairs. And did you know Hawaii moves toward Japan four inches every year? And if you were raised on a farm, you already know if an egg floats, it is not any good. Valentine’s Day says kissing can reduce tooth decay. I have a reason for this, but I’ll not tell stories out of school. I can’t let you know for a fact, but brandy will cause you the most severe hangover. A relative had a cure for hangovers. He just stayed drunk. What do we have against the letter “Q”? It is the only letter not in the name of a state. Aren’t facts boring?
